Thanks for the kudos... my steps are Westin "nerf" bars. I got them on eBay brand new for just under $200 shipped. Even though I really like sliders, my wife didn't, they cost more and I really didn't NEED sliders.kregg said:

I was just curious, I noticed that the subs are facing each other directly as opposed to having them facing the back or front of the car. I've never seen two subs face each other before unless it was a push/pull configuration within a bandpass or others.
Do you find them cancelling each other out? That would be my only concern with your design.

everything sounds fine... no problems with cancelling out.
I'm pissed, been waiting like 3 weeks for my sub. First I order it from some guy and he tells me that they are backordered, so 2 weeks later I get my refund and he does a bank account transfer through PayPal which will take me until Tuesday! And then when I order it, it'll probably go out Wdnesday and won't be here till next Tuesday or so!

Custom 6x9 boxes in 3rd gen
Hey, I wanted to do something a little different, and I had already replaced all of the stock speakers. I wasn't happy with the bass (I've got 5-1/4" components in the front), but I also didn't want to lose cargo space from a sub. So I built up some boxes to sit on the wheels hubs, and I found a nice place to hide an amp. The best thing (IMO) is that I hardly lost any space. I can still fold down the seats and sleep in the back.
Check it out:
Here's the pieces I cut out of 1/2" MDF, after using cardboard to get the proper curves. Notice I bevel cut the bottom of the largest pieces, so they would sit a little more flush to the side of the wheel well (you'll see what I mean later)

Here's the box after a couple of coats of glass. I know you guys that do body work are probably rolling on the ground, but the way I figured it, it didn't matter if it was smooth or looked good (or even if I sanded through the top coat in some areas), just as long as it was strong. It was. I just hate working with that sticky crap, so I was happy to leave the box as is at this stage.

Just a note to those who have never used these fasteners. They're called t-nuts, and they're 100x better than regular screws. I used these to mount the speaker to the baffle. They're basically bolted in, you can't put them too tight (reasonably) and you never have to worry about stripping the MDF. They're great if you remove the speaker down the line and wanna reuse the holes.

And here it is finished. After my last pics, I carpeted the whole box, and put in the speaker connectors. At first I tried using velcro on the bottom, the idea being that I could remove the boxes in a pinch. I also liked this idea, because I could put 40 extra feet of wire to each box, and when I'm camping, I could have just put the two boxes around the fire and have music. BUT, the velcro failed to hold onto the stock carpet. So instead I opted to cable tie the boxes to the carpet. This way, they're still relatively easy to remove, and I have no worries that they'll fall off.

And here's the final pic of the amp and the left box. The amp is covered up w/ carpet, which velcros right onto the amp. This way I can access it whenever I please, but I'm also not advertising that I have an amp back there. Many people dont even notice it.
Final thoughts:
I'm extremely happy with the bass I'm getting from the 6x9s, especially since they've got 350W peak going to them. I realize that I could have used 6-1/2s, or even small subs to get some mild bass, but I actually had these speakers lying around, along with the amp.
Table saws are the shiz
I would have liked to test fit the right side box a little more carefully. The shape of the wheel well on the right differs from the left. No biggie, but I've got a small gap now. I should've taken more time, but I'm still very happy with my results.

You really wouldn't know and would just assume that they just sound the way the sound but with minor tweaks, it's amazing what you can achieve out of an exsiting set up.
Something to brag about, I just won a small local competition for best SQ. I'm happy about that. Put a lot of thought into the system. Always room for upgrades though........cars are never ending money pits.

nice set up, do you find the kick panels get in the way? i've been planning to upgrade to 3 way imaging in the front, they are just much better when covering different frequency ranges.
did you install the crossovers in the back as opposed to behind the doors on purpose?
