kickpannels take some getting used to but its not too big of a deal.. i can take pictures later to show you where my feet rest.

ironically they get kicked by other people all the time but the dls mids i have in there are pretty tough so it works out. i just have to remind people to watch for my speaker

the kicks from qlogic absolutely suck and they are really big. the color didnt really match and it was made out of plastic those were absolutely unacceptable for me. so i just made my own and they look and feel alot better.

the crossovers looked nice so i decided to put them in the back. my old crossover [boston] was in the door panel and it got pretty dirty. i didnt want these nice crossovers getting nasty. it took alot more wire than i thought but i made it work out somehow. i doubt the extra wire had much of an affect on the sound but who knows.

the mids sound absolutely amazing. theres so much more detail esp with voices

i also tried to make a fiberglass enclosure molded to the inside of the door panels. i am not sure if it really worked well but it sounds good so at this point... i probably wont touch it for a while. that project just took alot out of me but it was all worth it : )

You know....I do have one beef with this truck. It's not the biggest SUV on the market but certainly big enough. I very disappointed that I have no where to hide my amps. There really isn't a place to install them other than directly behind the back seats. I have seen some smaller amps get installed on the sides of the trunk but those new miniturized amps lack SQ. I think the car audio industry no longer caters to audiophiles unless you get into the $10,000 + category. Even Alpine has gone to shit with their new line of amps.

If you can get your hands on an old school Phoenix Gold MS series amp like the MS2125 or the MS2250, then GRAB IT!!!! Best sub amps bar none for bass and SQ. Ebay has them kicking around but still expensive. Used amps still fetch around $800 +.
I'm looking for one to replace my stinky Phoenix Xenon amp.

I'm very happy with my Alpine V12 amp which runs my imaging and mid bass but looking to upgrade that too. Haven't figured out which amp though.

Anyways, it was just on my mind so I thought I would share it.....old school is still the better way to go. Why? Different current levels. High current vs. Low current. Todays amps are all super efficient, low heat producing bad sound quality amps. Any audiophile would no a high current amp producing 50watts a side is superior to a low current amp producing 200watts a side. Now take a MS2125 which is rated at 2x125watts, bridge it down and it pumps out 728watts rms of pure and real power. Your sub sings and hits frequencies you've never heard and felt.

I ran into this same problem... that's why I built a shallow false floor for my amps/hardware. I built one that is slightly larger than 4" tall, but you could get away with one about 3" tall with no problem. Just stick some fns in there and you should be OK.

I totally agree with you NIK0 and Erik, despite their size, finding a place to mount amps, speakers or subs is pretty hard. I love the setup you've done Erik, especially the false floor. You've managed to drop 2 12" subs into the back, but you could still pack a lot of gear.

I wish I knew more about what you were talking about with the high-efficiency versus old-schoole stuff, it sounds like you've got some good ideas.

FWIW, I've mounted my crossovers on the outside of the door panels (so I could still adjust the tweeter attenuator), but they're below the armrest. At this location, they're 99% unnoticeable, because when the doors are closed, the seats hide them. I've wrapped them in colour matched vinyl too. I just like my truck to look stock.

yea this vehicle is small. i forget how small it is until i get into a camery or something and it all looks the same

I love Phoenix Gold

I have 2 MS275's or is it MPS275 plus a MS 2240 sitting under my bed till i decide if I want to do a system in the runner or not along with multiple decks and speakers from over teh years. Also an Infinity Kappa amp which sounded real well on my Quart Componenets in my Acura.

Interesting, are you running super small memphis amps or something? I'm assuming under your front seats not back seats? My only other assumption is that you do not have power seats?

I've got an old jensen 500w amp under my front driver's seat for now. If it burns up, I'll know to put its replacement somewhere else. It's an old discontinued model, so I'm not going to be too heartbroken if it fries, plus it'll give me an excuse to upgrade.

I found that I couldn't fit an amp (or much else) under the passenger seat. I read somewhere that the rear seat fan is under there. But fitting an amp under the driver's seat, even with power seats, shouldn't be a problem. The only thing I'd worry about is the rear passengers kicking it with muddy boots.

I'm running two J/L amps. One is the 300.4 and the other is 250.1. Both fit w/ no problems under the front seats and I don't have power seats.

Can't say that they're small but they're definitely not large 1000 watt amps.

Well, the non power seat motors must give enough room for that. You're lucky in that sense.

Personally, I'd prefer a slightly shorter box, to allow full use of the cargo cover. I don't like to keep my speakers exposed like that in plain view.

I off road/camp/haul stuff and I like the single since I don't sacrifice needed room and it's an easy in/out proposition. I also don't need the Runner to weigh more than it already does. I can't imagine needing more bass than I already have;I'm not in a competition.

thanks fenrisx, its taken years to get to where it is, and its not done yet!

the sub box was built by a company called blvd. customs in st. pete, florida. i dont recall how much i spent, but it was on the pricey side. the jl subs and amp combo is awesome, the amp is turned down a little to make sure i cant blow the subs. it sounds great and i love listening to just about anything with the extra bass.

the snorkel is a must have for people in florida, i dont know how many times ive been happy i had it!!

I'd worry too much about the nice work when off roading but then again you Florida guys only have an elevation change of what? 6 feet?

Ok,you guys do have more water (thus the needed snorkel) than we got but we don't have 'gators.

Do you ever worry about submersing your rig in too deep of water or are you just real careful?

looks like we have the same equipment just different setup. i don't take my car off roading here in northern va. i could care less about hauling shit, that's what my brother has his toyo taco for. You have the double din nav and i have the single. it's all just preference.
