3rdGEN Stereo/Interior Showoff Thread!!!!!

Oh yeah,if mine was a street truck I'd go with a more complex and better sounding system but 4Runners aren't that spacious to begin with especially for weekend wheeling and camping trip for two people. Muddy, snowy, wet tools and stuff doesn't mix too well with electronic goodies.

I do have to fabricate a screen over my sub as it's already had a few "rubs" on it.

to be honest, i am careful and i dont go flying through a trail, thus preventing damage to my vehicle and my sound system.

ive carried all the gear needed for a week in the mountains in my truck so i dont need anymore space than that. its not removable, atleast not quickly, and i throw all my offroading crap in the backseat anyways.

to be honest with you, i can count the number of times on two hands that ive actually needed the snorkel, and about half of those times it was one of those "oh sh!t" moments when i just had to power through it.

and yeah, florida is VERY flat, but check out these pics to see some offroading that we did a couple weeks ago during tropical storm barry

and ruin it, i used to have the single din screen, but i didnt like how it got in the way of my ac controls, so in comes the double din.

yeah man, i dont need that much space either, i perfer the music more..

u 703 too

yup i'm 703. most suv's around us are more street trucks anyway.

runnerup - i actually like the fact that the single din hides the ac controls. the double din i thought would sit too low and would be too hard to see. plus if i watch dvd's while i drive (i know, i know) I at least want the screen closer to my dash.

I secretly was jealous. :biggrin2:

Looked like fun with an extra element of danger.

not to sound rude but i would never let you install my stereo... IE the Electric tape on the amp and the incorrect position of the subs.. and the look of the riced out car

also, i plan to paint my dash to silver and everything else to black. so my theme would be black and silver. i hope to work on it soon since it's summer. i also plan fiber glass a screen into my sun visor with a help from a friend of mine. he installed a computer into his accord which he could help me with this screen-visor. so i'll create a worklog whenever i'm ready. :D

did you ever end up painting your dash ? If so what paint did you use?

I'm looking at putting a system in mine. Not sure about double or single din yet. Looking at Fosgate Punch 12" P3 at 2 ohms in a 1.8 cubed ported enclosure tuned down to 28hz with Fosgate components in the front and coaxes in the rear. All powered by a NVX 1100.5. Question is, are the front doors roomy enough for a sewhat big crossover? Also should I use a mid-range instead of a coax in the rear doors?

Front doors can barely fit a 6.5 inch speaker. I put a small xover right above my 6.5" front doo speakers and had to grind to get door panel on

The stock speaker is a 6.5 I guess the door isn't very deep if it barely fits. Is there room at the bottom below the x-over to mount it?

I would put the x-over inside the cab. I hid mine behind the kick panels and it worked out pretty well in my Tacoma. Not sure where I'll stick them in the 4runner but ill figure it all out this summer when I get to it.

In the door you have limited room plus the window is a consideration as well. If the xover comes loose you might have problems with the window jamming or breaking the gears.

i just picked up my 2000 4runner and will be doing the audio install in a few months.

if you're having trouble with a 6.5 mid use a 1/2 to 3/4" spacer if needed, will give you more rear clearance.

also, look into using a dsp, i have a helix dsp that i will be using. no need for passive crossovers. everything is run active, allows you to time align and tune each individual speaker.

i'm thinking of buying a double din but i have a pioneer deh-80prs so I may just use it, all i really need is bluetooth.
other plans are to run audison voce av k6 up front, audison voce avx6.5 in rear doors, and either a soundsplinter rl-p15 ported, a pair of tc sounds tc1000 8s ported, or a pair of jl 12w6v3s ported.
i have a zapco st-1650xm ii for bass duty, and i also have some zapco st-4x sq amps, but i'm probably going to sell them and get a zapco z-150.6 lx.
Should be fun.

Extra screens

busmup808 your pictures are really dark so it's kind of hard to see. What are the brand/model for your top compass screen, center-dash mounted gauges, and the temp/voltage unit?

And hopefully you still have some links? :eyebrows:

My top compass/altimeter is a JDM HILUX SURF model that came stock for their trucks. The compass/altimeter in the dash came from a Prado. I regret putting that one on simply because I had to cut the dash to install it and it also doesn’t fit properly. I can take better pictures later because my truck is in the shop getting a makeover.

Makeover? Do tell

Wireless carplay kenwood unit and pioneer front speakers. Haven’t gotten around to doing the rears yet. Makes road trips so much better.
