3VZE.. another one bites the dust..

i discovered the other day that thrust bearings are an important item in my wonderful little 3.slow. i also discovered that advancing your timing is a bad thing to do with bad thrust bearings. but this is all after i discovered that my cam pulley flew off, and the cam itself is an inch further outside the engine that it should be, my belts are torn to shreds and i no longer have power steering, ac, or a functional charging system. im just the ultimate detective. anyways, it was about time for that thing to die anyways. 237000 miles, and about 200000 of them are highway miles in the desert. Ill cut to the chase: im yanking that motor for one i found at my local junkyard (very surprisingly) for $600. complete motor. i thought it was a good deal. Anyways, is there anywhere that has a write up on removing and replacing the 3VZE? pictures would be nice too. thanks in advance.

I second that, mine has a bad head gasket, rear main seal, low compression, sucks when cold, stalls,and is a pita to start after it stalls (runs rich i think)

my old boss is letting me use his shop, which has all the tools i need and im pretty much using my cursed photographic memory in doing this, and so far so good. you should all see my old motor though. talk about a wreck. both valve covers were leaking, the rear seal was beyond toast, the clutch was one good burnout from going out, oil all over the place, intake plenum gasket is crap, coolant bridge crack, motor mount on passenger side broken, la la la la la. wow. i BOUGHT this nice truck with a S*#T engine. oh well, out with T4R 3VZE; in with taco 3.slow. ill post a pic of the old one, youll all go, "oh, no he didnt"

I bought one from Toyota's manual distribution center for my 90 t4r about 3 months ago. No, the dealers don't sell them because they want your $$.

I think the number may be in the back of your owners manual.

The manuals are as nice as my porsche carrera manuals.. Very nice, and CHEAPER. About $150 for the full set.

Your dealer is a crook, my dealer gave me the number to call.

Well, I achieved the almost impossible. After mickey mouse'ing with trying to get the motor to bolt up to the transmission to no avail, I yanked the new motor again and tranny and dropped it in. Surprising what you can do with a couple good prybars. Anyways, motor and tranny is in, now its time to relink hoses, attach drivelines and un-do what the junkyard did to my wiring harness (cut it ). This just keeps getting better and better. I almost want to say I should have waited and did all this work for a 5VZFE but too late now.

And a 93FSM would work, toyota put a new one out each year for each model, prolly citing small changes in design. Ya right

Unfortunatly, no, although I should have. My T4R is my daily driver, and I was in a horrible rush to get it done.
