3VZE Timing belt schedule

I know this subject has probably been visited many times, but this forum does not seem to let me search anything. It just says "loading" for an eternity.

Anyway, here's the question. Toyota recommends that the timing belt should be changed every 60k miles on a 3VZE. Seriously? Does anyone else think that this sounds more like a way for the dealerships to make money, or is there some merit to changing out the belt more frequently than any other manufacturer on the planet? I just bought the 4Runner, and I am willing to put in the time and money if it really is a critical maintenance issue.

I did my timing belt and water pump last weekend, and honestly it's not too bad of a job. The only thing that hung me up was tightening the crank pulley bolt, but I got it figured out without too much trouble. If you have all the tools you need, I bet you could get it done in under two hours.

When I finally did my timing kit it was 90k + miles from when the last one was done according to receipts in the truck. The 3vze is a non interference motor so if the belt breaks it will just end your day not your motor. It's not too bad of a job, the only trouble can be the crank pulley just because of years of being cooked on there. If I recall correctly there are no speciality tools really necessary for the job.
