4.7 V8 Engine Tick

has anyone experienced a tick coming from the engine. i hear it all the time and it sounds like a lifter, bad rocker or a leaking exhaust manifold. i have listened to other 4.7s and they are quiet. my neighbor has 3 tundras and they are all quiet. mu local dealer says its "normal" valvetrain noise, but i have experience normal valetrai noise and this is not "normal". i heard it when my GF left with it the other day and it can be heard idling.it did it for the service writer too.

mine is very quiet, but i use full synthetic oil, maybe try a change to it if you havent already. the ticking is definitly not normal on the v8.

How many miles do you have? The 4.7 and most Toyotas do not use hydralic lifters or rockers etc. The clearance is set with shims under the cam buckets and need to be checked if it is making noises.

I have a ticking, its from the manifold. This is a known issue w/the V8. You can also try searching the site for valve adjustment. Im not sure if it applies to both VVTI and non variable engines though.

Uhm, how is valve adjustment associated with the manifold?

I'm assuming it's the same sound described in this thread.

2 separate issues.

Manifold noise will get louder with increased load on an engine. I hear it most often when the engine is cold. The noise is reduced at normal operating temp and the parts expand.

Toyota recommends servicing the valves on an as-needed basis, calling for inspection at 60k. Unless the engine has been beaten like it owes you money, the valves should still be within normal tolerances.

I got the same issue as you. When the engine is cold, and the truck is in gear, there's knocking sound. No such sound once the engine is warm.
