4.88's or 5.29's Opinions please!!!

So the time has come to do a gear swap but I can't decide on the 4.88's or 5.29's.

Here's what I got:

My initial thought was to go with 4.88's and here's why:
3rd gen, 5-speed, and 35's (for most of the year, and 32" studded tires in the winter)
Daily commute to work of about 10 minutes each way at highway speeds.
Off-roading ranges from steep deactivated logging roads to sand to mud.

However, lately the wife and I decided to by a 19' travel trailer for camping with the kids so I'm now leaning towards the 5.29's.

My only concern is the fact that, come winter time and I change over to the studs, I'll be revving higher than I should be, and I run these tires for anywhere from 4 - 5 months of the year.

So let's have you opinions please!!! What should I do???

stick with the 488s, youll be fine, for the couple times a year that you tow that trailer you will be lacking on power and pick up, but thats gonna happen with 529s too so just stick with the 488s and for the rest of the time i think you will find you are perfect. it will be a happy medium overall i think youll find

I agree with the kid. Go with 4.88s. Your rpms are already going to be higher at freeway speeds with a 5 speed than an auto with the same diff ratio because your 5th gear is lower than our overdrive. So basically 4.88s in a 5 speed = about the same freeway rpms as an auto with 5.29s. If you put 5.29s in a 5 speed, it would be like having 5.71s in an auto which is too low unless you have at least 35s all the time.

Even 4.88s in your 5 speed with only 32s will be a little overgeared, but it will be bearable. 5.29s would seriously limit your freeway driving.

Unless you have added 1000 lbs. in armor or other more permenant heavy modifications, stick with the 4.88s.

i will never get 5.29 unless its a trail rig cuz you'll be hitting 4000 rpm doing 65mph, with 5.29 you can drop it in low put in first and just let go it will craw ltself
