4 Wheel Drive on SR5

When my SR- 5 (2011) is in 4 wheel drive are the front and rear diffs locked or are they open? Is there a difference between 4H and 4Low regarding the diffs.

All diffs are open. ATRAC acts almost like a locker (it stops a wheel from spinning so the power can be routed to the wheel with more traction) in 4LO. Lots of info about this stuff in your manual, but I have to admit the description of the electronic "helpers" are a little confusing in there...

Where are the experts??????:wow2:

All of the mechanical differentials on the 4runner are Open. The only one that has a locking differential is the Trail Edition in the rear.

ATRAC acts like a limited slip differential and brakes individual tires so that power is moved to the wheel with traction. It is not as effective as a locker, but from what I can gather, it is still fairly effective.
