4 Wheel Drive Sticking

Ok So I was having this problem with the 4wheel drive system not wanting to disengauge on my 94 runner. The thing would go into 4 wheel with no problem then when switching back to 2 wheel it would not want to disengauge. I would need to make a fairly sharp turn in order for it to click back into 2 wheel. Well I researched everything that it could possibly be. With out having actually done anything it fixed. What happened was I had 3 different style tires on my rig. It pulled kinda to the right and they were all going bald. So I decided it was time for a new set. I got the BF Goodrich All Terain T/A, as they come highly recommended from many sources I read about. Well after they were installed the 4 wheel drive system worked perfectly. What I am thinking is the crappy other tires I had were rotating at slightly different speeds causing binding, and not letting the 4 wheel drive system slip back into 2 wheel. So If anyone else has the same problem thats what fixed mine

I did get the 31's. The only problem is that the spare does not fit very well underneith. It is touching both the sway bar and the tow hitch, and only about a 1/2" to 1" away from the exaust pipe.

Oh yes, mis-matched tires will do all kinds of nasty things to your rig!

You may want to change out your gear lube if it has been a while. Extra stresses from the binding can really mess with things.

I'd be a little concerned with the clearance from the exhaust pipe. You may be able to fab a heat sheild easily, but I am not sure if that would help much. I would risk a call to BFG and see if they have any concerns with the heat.

Personally, I am looking for an exterior mount tailgate and hardware so I can get mine "up above" where I can get to it. Changed too many flat tires axle deep in mud, not looking forward to having the truck sitting on top of my spare when I need it! (Ok, so I have only done it once...I learn quick!)

I was thinking about taking it down to a local muffler shop and see if they can just bend the pipe a little farther away from the spare. I was thinking about getting a rear mount set up too. But now sure how to go about it. Have you had any luck with that?
