4 wheel drive switch problem after Stereo install

Long time lurker, first time poster.

I have a 08 Urban Runner that I just finished doing a stereo install.
{Awesome help here on the forum on the unique wiring I encountered.}

I forgot to plug in the 4 wheel drive switch when I put the dash back together and drove it. :cry2:
After re-connecting the switch, both the 4wd green and yellow lights are on and it's stuck in 4H. The switch does nothing and seems dead to the world. The 4wd worked / switched fine before {4low gets exercised monthly with no issues}

I tried disconnecting the neg. terminal at the the bat. for 1/2 hr and still no change. I think I got a good ECU(s} reset as it died quickly once after starting.

All the searches I've done return issues with stuck actuators.
Any help is appreciated !

I’ve turned on my vehicle many many times with that thing disconnected, so I doubt you’ve done permanent damage. Are you able to disengage the center differential? Or do you get the beeps when you shift into 4lo not in neutral? And just verify you have a good connection on the 4wd switch.

Also might be worth checking fuses. Check any 4wd fuses.

put the truck in neutral and put the switch back to 2wd. might have to get the truck to move a little bit for it to engage and disengage.

truck should be fine.

No I can't disengage the diff. flashing yellow light.
Fuses are OK. No beeps, solid green 4w light and flashing yellow.

I'll try putting it in neutral on a hill after work.

Had the same happen when I was installing my ham radio. I accidentally moved the switch while it was disconnected. My 4Runner was trying to go from 2 Hi to 4 Lo without a stop at 4 Hi. (At least that's the best I could come up with.)

To fix it, I disconnected the switch, st the switch to 4 Hi, re-connected the switch, and then drove a few blocks until it went in to 4 Hi and the yellow flashing light went out. Then I was able to normally switch it back into 2 Hi.

I had the same thing happen... took it to a toyota shop and they found out that when I had pushed the wiring harness back into the switch, I had bent, one of the pins, so it want making contact.
They just straightened the bent pin without breaking it, and has been working perfect for about a year now.
Hope you get yours figured out

I was really hoping for a bent pin, that would be sooo me, but they are all good.
Disconnected / reconnected the switch and drove around 10mi and no change.

I have a good indie Toyota shop here in the Mpls. burbs. I'll see what they can find out.

It works.
I took it for a longer drive after disconnecting / re-connecting the switch again and about 20min later on the highway - bingo all is well, shifts like butter.

I did the same thing. A code gets set. If you clear the code, it goes away and all is better.arty:
