4 Wheel drive

I recently bought a used 2012 SR5 and this is my 3rd 4Runner((2) 2004 Sport V6). When in 4wd and turning at slower speeds the front wheels make noise and steering is not easy. Is this normal for the 5th generation? I don't recall the steering being as difficult with the previous generation. Any help is appreciated

Maybe you mean binding the driveline because you are turning in small radiuses on dry pavement? I would stopping doing that and use 2wd. Then, wait for one of the experts on here to chime in because I am definitely not one.
 
I experienced this the other day when I used the 4h. Drove all the way to work with it in 4wd. Then when I slow down to almost a stop and make a turn into the parking space, it hardly wanted to move. I'll look forward to others experiences and thoughts.
 
You are in 4hi when you should not be. Your truck does not have a center differential and you are experiencing binding. 4WD should only be used during times of reduced traction. Please look back a page or 2 to see the various threads discussing similar questions over the past few days.

I think Toyota needs to put a giant warning label on the 4x4 shifter!

Outstanding information. I read that a few months back. I actually think I found the link through this forum. Regardless, it should be pointed for all to see and not hidden away in multiple threads.

Answer: No, it's just easier to post a question on a forum.
 
While there is stuff in the OM about drivetrain bind, most people don't know what it feels or sounds like until they experience it.

You can describe stuff in manuals and videos, but experience is worth so much more.
