4 wheel low beeping

I was in West Virginia a couple of weekends ago and driving in some muddy terrain.

I had never used my 4 wheel drive in low, so I thought I would give it a try. It probably didn't need it, but I want to try it anyway.

The console started beeping when I was driving. Was I going to fast?

Just wondering.

Thanks,

did you do it right? to go from 4H to 4L you need to shift into neutral, shift into 4L, and shift back into drive. same thing for getting it from 4L to 4H.

You need to be at a stop, not moving. Then shift into Neutral before you turn the dial to 4Lo. If you do it while moving and/or not in Neutral it will just beep at you and not engage.

So...
Come to a complete stop
Shift into neutral
Engage 4Lo until the dash light goes from blinking to solid
Repeat process to disengage

If you've never used it you may have a stuck actuator and it will not engage. You need to cycle or exercise the system every month or so to keep things from seizing up.

He was moving when trying to engage it.

That's true, and you told him how to fix it. But he also said he never used it. My point was he/she needs to use it regularly so it won't seize.
