4 wheel turning issues- normal?

Hey folks,

Just bought a 2000 t4r srs with 80k miles. Got a sweet heart deal.

Anyway, put it into 4wd tonight and when I turn the wheels seem to slip and the truck seems to buck.

Is this normal?

It yours is the traditional 4x4 system, then yes that is normal on dry pavement. You should never use the tradition 4x4 on paved roads as it can cause problems. The 01-02s had the multimode (push button) transfercase which is like an AWD system letting you drive in 4x4 on pavement. This option was on some 2000s, I believe it was only the limiteds though.

Thanks mcaz5. Yeah it seems to be the traditional 4 wd design (not a button style as you mentioned)

So are you saying not to drive in wheel mode on normal paved roads?

There shouldn't be a need for it on paved roads. Unless there's snow on the ground then you would be fine.

The bucking/slipping and difficulty turning is due to the drivetrain buckling and straining. Don't use the 4wd on pavement unless snow cover as already mentioned above. That's a good way to break something
