414Runner '18 TRD ORP build and (city) adventure thread

This past Saturday I made a trade in and purchase deal that I could not walk away from. Finally joined the 4Runner nation with an '18 TRD Off Road Premium in Magnetic Gray, which I pick up on Monday.

I was torn between the White and Gray, but there's just something about the gray once it's been blacked out that looks mean. Can't wait to get the mods underway....as the budget and wife allow. First up will be tint and emblem black outs, followed by painting the silver bumper pieces.

This will be my daily driver/dog hauler/grocery getter/dad machine (in a year or two anyways). I live deep within Milwaukee, but I'll be doing moderate mods to be weekend off-road and road trip capable. And hopefully half as awesome looking as some of the builds on here.

This won't be the quickest build or wildest adventure thread, but will be your average dude trying to do 4Runner mods and exploring as life allows.

Shameless first day pics

Today I dropped off my Subaru and picked up my TRD ORP. I felt like a kid waiting for Christmas morning....and it has been a long time since a car has made me feel that way.

Drove it off the lot with 2 miles on it and bone stock. I didn't go for any extras from the dealership, so I can pick and choose each and every mod I decide to do.

Don't mind the shameless pictures I immediately had to take to share. Not regretting this purchase what.so.ever.!

Congrats on the new ride it looks awesome! I have been holding off modding mine, but sounds like we will be in similar boats with the plans.

Congrats! Since you are in SE Wisconsin, you may want to consider undercoating it for all of the salt they dump on the roads. My TRD Pro already has rust along the welds and it has never seen salt and is parked until spring.

That's not a bad idea. Any recommendations as to what type of under coating or where that can be done? Thanks!

It's in Tosa. It's less of a road and more of a back access driveway to the construction site north of Watertown Plank and West of the W.A.C. Maybe 100yds of driving, but I wanted to get a shot on my way home that was away from the road or a parking lot.

Do you know of any spots around here for a decent non-paved drive?

Sorry, no suggestions, not as familiar with Milwaukee. I wanted to get mine done this fall, but wanted to put sliders on first and by the time I got the sliders and had them powder coated, I did not have time to get it undercoated. However, my Pro is not my daily driver and can sit until spring.

I never had my 2012 FJ undercoated and drove it very sparsely during the winter. It had a light coat of surface rust in areas around the welds on the frame and on the rear axle, when I traded it. So I am planning on being more careful with the Pro and likely will get it undercoated in the spring.

I get a couple cans of Fluid Film, Spring and fall.
Worked well on my FJ.

Don't know of anything close. Although I found a new subdivision being put in in New Berlin.
Was able to drive in low and crawl on some nice inclines before the road was paved.

Tinted subdued don't mean nothin' they know who's inside!

Got the front windows tinted last night to match the stock rear tint. Shop said they were 20% from the factory. Color is a tad off if I look straight through with snow in the background, so we'll see how it cures over the next few days. May still go darker yet!

January Plasti Dip attempt at 40 degrees

I got some time off and a warm(ish) day so I thought I'd try Plasti-dipping the silver and chrome pieces on the 4Runner. I've never dipped anything before, so had no idea how the can should spray, but went with it. Turns out it was too cold out and the cans were too cold.

The bumpers turned out alright, but it was too cold to get the dip to peel cleanly from the lettering. I actually ended up taking some of the badging odd.

Once it warms up I'll peel all the dip and actually paint them pieces. It'll work for now though!
