4300k vs. 5000k

Well I'm finally gonna upgrade my '06 to HID. I've done all my homework and I can't decide to go with 4300k or 5000k, both kits from XenonDepot. I know that 4300k is the most light output you can achieve but I also heard it looks a little like stock yellow halogen, I'm looking for the stock HID look, pure white (lexus,infiniti, etc.) I'm not gonna do a retrofit, don't have the money right now.....and I will bend down the squirrel finders for glare......Any input would be appreciated....Thanks.

Lexus uses 4300K. BMW, Mercedes, etc use somewhere around 5000K or 6000K.

It doesn't look yellow at all, it's pure white. 5000K will look almost identical to 4300K in projector headlights, so the only thing they will do is emit 10% less light than the 4300K. They might look a tiny bit more crisp, but not noticeable enough to make me want 10% less light output.

I talked to (Steve I think) from XenonDepot and he said if I wanted them to look different, to go all the way to 6500K because the 4300K and 5000K will look the same in projector headlights. I'll be sticking with the 4300K since they have the best light output, and are still perfectly white.
 
Thanks Josh....Do you think the philips bulbs look the same as the ones the regular Xtreme HID's come with or is the philips gonna be brighter, better, etc....

As far as I know they just cost more because of where they are made, claiming better quality. Light output is the same I think.

i have the 4300 hid on my 06 and i can tell yeah they don't look yellow at all ive had friends that own bmw,benz,infiniti and they told me that mine seem brighter and clearer than theirs if u want to post some pics of what it looks like i can

Yeah if you could post some pics that would be great, you too Josh, I'm probably gonna order the 4300k just to get the most output.....
 
I guess I have a different take on this.

When I first installed HIDs, I ordered a 6000K kit. To me, even the 6000s were not really white enough. At certain angles, they looked just a touch yellow here and there. I ended up getting 8000K bulbs and I love them. They are plenty bright and they have the slight blue/ice tint that I like. Really a great look when I also turn on the 2500K fogs.

this is exactly what happens when people buy cheap HID kits and use crappy kit bulbs made somewhere in underground labaratory in Asia. There is simply no consistency between them and whatever looks "pure white" in one kit as 8000K other swears it looks like 5000K from his kit, thus desinforming everybody elso on a board. Forget about that. There is only a couple manufactures who have been in HID bulbs business long enough, who spends millions on reserch and development, who have certain standards in fabrication process etc. It is Phillips and Osram (Sylvania). The rest HID bulbs are garbage! God, most of them dont even have a color temperature etched on bulb base so how the hell you even know which bulb you talking about? LOL
Phillips Ultinon is the only 6000K DOT certified bulb. There is no OEM bulbs above 6000K range for a reason, and they look blueish with slight PURPLE not white in them, not to mention none of the yellow you seen there from a certain angles :D Please dont tell me second picture is "pure white" at 6700K

HID bulbs are delicate things to make, output color dectated by a mixture of salts and all those asian producers who you swear by have no way of making them exactly same even from batch to batch.
And there is such a term as "colorshifting" After about 200 hours (100 hours or less for crappy kit bulbs) they tend to colorshift, lose some of intensity/lumens and get more color.
 
The first picture is what most would consider a "yellow tint" and the second is the "pure white" color...

right, 4300K (real german bulbs, not cheap chinese knock-off kit bulbs) do have a slight yellow tint in them. Second picture is nowhere "pure white" color. Dont just look at a hotspot in a middle, I'm talking about overall beam which is purplish. Dont trust your eyes? Take this photo to Photoshop and check a pixel value, see if it comes back as white lol :D
The problem is how different people see a light, this why we have some say that 6000K is too yellow for them and some say 4300K is white as snow LOL

I see what you mean... however because the color white can be a wide spectrum of shades, I think it's pretty hard to determine pure white. I do see the purple tint to the second picture, I just think that most people would consider that picture the whiter of the two.
