45K maint.

Ok I need my oil changed at 45K , they suggest I do the maint. package like said in the manual. I did that at 30K. I just want an oil, lube filter. I don't want to pay for the battery inspection , ect.... you know how they inspect things and charge you for them when all they do is look at something and rack up the bill.

would you spend the money for the 45k maint. program . I religiously oil, lube , filter every 5K and rotate tires at 5K.

Mike

PS the dealer says its called "intermediate service" and costs $190.00 + TAX.

I would buy the premium Purolator air filter and cabin filter and DIY those items. Spray the door latches and hinges, check tire pressures including the spare, look at the battery terminals for corrosion and head for the dealer.

Next I would ala carte an oil change, driveline fluid level top-off and driveshaft grease from the dealer. If the battery terminals had crust all over them and you don't want to do it let them clean the terminals. You'll come out way below $190.

Just my 2cents

Good point , I'll do that stuff , they can do OLF.

That should keep me to $25 or so.

Thanks CJ.

Can I just buy those filters from Napa ?

15k,45k, 75k should also include an EFI service which can help save fuel economy, and clean the injectors, and fuel rail. They un-hook the fuel line, and run the engine on the cleaner. This is not done at 30k intervals. Just thought I'd add that.

Yes, Napa is the good stuff:biggrin2: 96dcmss has a good point but IIRC you're on the Sea-Foam bandwagon. If that's the case there would be little benefit from the injector cleaning. At 45k I wouldn't worry about injector too much either way. 75-90k is probably the right time for an injector cleaning on the T4R.

I throw a can of Seafoam in after every oil change. (5k miles). Truck runs smooth and milage is great so I'm not to worried about it.

Should I just pick up a air filter and cabin filter from the dealer ?

The dealer will get the job done but it'll be slightly more $$$. If it's the most convinient then get the filters at the dealer. Both filters will probably have a total premium $15+/- over the aftermarket.

Napa or AutoZone will have those filters. AZ air filters are Purolator and come in two grades. Get the higher grade. That's just my 2cents.

Nothing about EFI service in the manual. Dealer just trying to line their pockets. Here is what needs to be done.

Replace engine oil and oil filter 1
Rotate tires
Lubricate propeller shaft (4WD)
Re-torque propeller shaft bolt
Visually inspect brake linings/drums and brake pads/discs

Inspect the following:
Ball joints and dust covers
Brake lines and hoses
Drive shaft boots (4WD)
Engine coolant 5
Exhaust pipes and mountings
Front differential oil (4WD)
Radiator, condenser and/or intercooler
Rear differential oil
Steering gear box
Steering linkage and boots

Agree here in January of 11! Heading South at 45K and changing oil Mobil one (gear oils changed at 30K) filters grease and heading south x the Yukon. Will send pics of Yukon Beast.

Oh just a thought. when I came up 2 years ago the battery checked low so under warranty I replaced it....wonder if I should do same heading south.....was surprised at the first failure don't want to be surprised in the -30 temps.

I do most of the 45k stuff at 40k and then at 50k will change driveline fluids and do a cooler line trans flush and probably a brake reline and fluid flush. I also do a drain fill on coolant every 50k and no flush at 100k.

As for the fuel injector service...I use a whole bottle of redline SI-1 in a tank of gas every 50k for the mass clean up then a regular dose every 15-20k. I have never had any Toyota or Lexus EFI cleaned yet. But at 100k I pull the throttle body & clean it manually.
