45k service, DIY?

So I'm at 45k now on my 06 and the dealer wants around $270 for the service. I need to check to see if that includes actually replacing the diff fluids or not but it seems like I should just do this myself.

Their checklist is:
1. Replace oil/filter (easy enough)
2. Rotate tires (also easy enough)
3. Lube propeller shaft (easy, I do this already with oil changes, hitting the zerk fittings with the mobil1)
4. Re-Torque propeller shaft bolts (easy, see this thread: Propeller Shaft Re-Torque
5. Visually inspect a bunch of stuff.

So, basically its the normal 60 dollar service plus lubing and re-torquing the shaft! that's a ripoff for $200+. Now, if they do change the fluids, it might be less of a rip-off but im starting to think I should just pay them the 60 for the normal oil/tire rotation (save me a little time and having to jack it up) and replace the fuilds myself, also doing the tranny at the same time.

Thoughts? How much does it cost for parts to change the diff fluids?

My toyota service rep is actually a pretty cool guy and he agreed it might be worth just doing it on my own and suggested looking into redline fluids, said he put them in his M3 and they made a world a difference. Has anyone used these fluids?

$70-$80 approx. You need to get a little pump too. Getting the new fluid in without one is virtually impossible.

thanks for the info CJ, you seem to know the answers to all my questions!

I got the servicing done today and my Toyota Service rep is great. First he suggested I just do those things myself instead of pay them because its a ripoff if you know what you're doing and changing fluids is simple if you have the right tools and know your way around.

Second, I ended up paying $117.XX for a minor service (oil/filter change, tire rotation, additives, inspection, etc). Normally I get this for $60 because I have a VIP deal with them, which has already paid for itself! I didn't argue that because he verbally told them to do the rest:
TB Clean, Service Rear Brakes (change fluid, clean), re-torque the drive shaft and grease the fittings underneath.

So, in the end, I got the $260 service done for $120 because I have a good relationship with the guy.

I'm still debating whether to go with his suggestion for Red Line fluids or go with Mobil 1 for the tcase and differential. I have to wait for my buddy to get back from Africa so I can get my floor jack, jack stands and torque wrench out of his garage! Wish I had done that before he left!

No real thoughts, I think it's hard to go wrong. I have used Amsoil for gears for many years. I never fell in love with engine oils, I don't have any real, quantifiable reasons. The gear lubes always seem to look new with even up to 90k on them. Lots of gearlube stuff here: Gear & Transmission Used/Virgin Oil Analysis - Bob Is The Oil Guy
