4Hi not engaging

Hi im new to 4runners, i just traded my taco for my 97 SR5 4runner w/ 5-speed and V6. The problem is 4Lo engages fine but 4Hi wont engage at all. I hear the relay clicking but the 4x4 light doesn't come on for either position. Can some please help, thanks

there's various threads for this, it's either the sensor,actuator,or a vacuum problem

I've read all those threads and have a slightly different issue - 4wd hi engages at low speed and in reverse or if I jam on the brake but won't just drop in while driving. Any idea why? 2001 sr5

What do mean by, "drop in while driving"???

4wd Hi and Low are mechanically implemented, nothing automatic about it.

YOU pick Hi or low and move the lever in that direction, WHILE stopped, no movement!

Did the runner come with a user manual? might want to check that out or get one. Luck and enjoy the runner. :cowboy:
