4R on Hawaii Five-O

Anyone else notice a 3rd gen 4Runner as a police car on the TV show Hawaii 5-0, then later in the show there was a 5th Gen in a background shot, as another cop car, I guess, too. I am not a huge fan of the show but I caught it. Episode from a few weeks ago.

Thats the first 5th gen I have seen on TV.

Yea when I was down in Honolulu I saw a bunch of 4th gens that were cops, w/ light bar and all...

I think I recall someone saying that in Hawaii you can use your personal vehicle as a law enforcement vehicle. (probably a nice way to get some money back on your mods)

PD Vehicles In Hawaii


Many law enforcement officers in Hawaii do indeed use their "personal" vehicles as on-duty rigs. They receive a stipend of some sort and can thus get them equipped as they see fit.

Not sure how all of that works out with warranty, fuel & insurance purposes....but they've done it that way for years there.
