4R's ugly cousin - GX - no changes for 2012

Well, maybe this is drastic change in Toyota's books - a new paint colour, some glossier wheels, and some flashier cladding, but that's the extent of changes for the 2012 GX 460.

I expect this means no changes for 2012 4R, unless a chrome strip is considered change. We should know in a few days or weeks what changes are coming, if any, for 2012 4R.

Whats amazing to me is that people would spend an EXTRA $20K for this thing over a 4R. Even if I had endless gobs of free cash I would still buy a 4R and spend the $20K on ......something else...

I drive by the Lexus dealer as its near my house. Its HUGE and has about 70-80 of these NEW GX460 units on the lot. Most of them sticker around the low $60's.

Yes, they have a V8 but ..... I dont now maybe I just love my 4R???

According to latest Car & Driver, changes to 2012 4R are: "Entune becomes optional, and power running boards become optional."

Though looks are petty subjective, I don't see anything wrong with the GX. I looked at one last weekend and materials incl. paint, leather, plastics, carpet are all noticably higher quality than the 4runner. Add in a V8, electric 3rd row, KDSS, adjustable suspension, dual rear-seat DVDs and full passeneger area ventillation system.....is it a surprise it costs more than a 4runner?

I personally wouldn't want such a nice car as a utility vehicle, but some would. I've gotta be honest here. I think some of you guys are just being haters.

I agree. It depends on what the consumer wants. Sure, I am happy with the SR5 at "X" price but someone else might want the doodads of the limited which of course increases the price. The next guy likes the limited but wants all the doodads of the GX460 which of course increases the price. It all depends on what you want and how much you have to spend - just like everything else in this world.

if I had an extra 20K to spend on my T4R...............well you know........SC, Lift, Winch, tires, Wheels, Snorkel (custom), lockers, gears, skids, and then I would save the other 7K for a nice 3rd gen as a DD

I guess you need to be really rich person to buy a GX and spend $$$ on offroad upgrades. And then take your GX offroad : )

I've driven the GX and 4R at length. Not sure why, but love the 4R to pieces yet strangely despise the GX - despite the 'nicer' qualities of GX.
Comes down to taste I guess, like preferring Angelina Jolie over ******* Spears.

Me too. I don't dig on the GX's third window--it looks too much CUV.

You'll have time for what you want to have time for, and money for what you want to have money for.

This is why you see a nice 50K Lexus or Cadillac in the trailer park, people have different ideas of "needs".

Also if you got the money, go for it. I work at a company of 10,000 or so people and the average salary is 135K (via Forbes). In OKC where you can get a 4000 sq/ft house on 2.5 acres for 500K, i say this cause people have a lot of extra money vs a higher cost of living area. All i see is nice cars in our parking garage and honestly the people deserve it, they work hard.
