My 5th gen had KDSS, so it was pretty "sporty" compared to this SR5. Though at highway speeds the 6th gen cruises very nicely, the combination of a softer suspension and slightly longer wheelbase is pretty cush. The springs are soft enough to cruise over big speed humps but they also will allow the nosedive when braking hard. I will probably upgrade the suspension within the first 15-20k miles. No so much to lift it, but better dampening shocks. The stereo sounds pretty much the same to me -and better than the Mazda I had recently. The camera in the back is better, imo, no issues backing up and very clean image even in lower light. Can you tell us more about how it drives compared the gen 5. Do you notice the radio, particularly the camera resolution, is way better?
Like you, I also enjoy Toyota's radar cruise and lane keep assist.
I added the front and transmission skid plates for the Trailhunter trim. These are fairly stout steel plates that should stand up to moderate abuse. Total of 10 bolts to attach both plates, and they fit absolutely perfectly. Took maybe 15 min to put them on. I also picked up a spare 5R5 wheel on ebay so I can have a full size spare. Just got the front windows tinted today, next step will be some kind of rock sliders. Leaning towards the factory sliders for the Trailhunter (again) as they are pretty well constructed and relatively cheap. At this rate I will end up building my own version of a Trailhunter, lol. Considering the price difference between the SR5 and TH trims, I have lots of cash to play with.
Very nice. How much did those Trailhunter skids cost you, new or takeoffs from a literal TH?I added the front and transmission skid plates for the Trailhunter trim. Congrats - great looking vehicle!Replaced the highway tires with some AT's. Went with 255/75's even though I could have fit bigger. Hopefully that keeps the mpg's a little higher than a 33 would have. The tires from the factory were 30.5x 9.5 so these are a big upgrade. Milage on my first tank which was mostly city with a couple drives in the country was 23.4 mpg. I just filled up so this will be the first full tank with new tires. I did a 200 mile RT on the highway and it handled very well at 70-75 and the extra grunt was helpful in the passing lane. I managed to hit a stiff headwind in both directions, so the mpgs were down to just over 20 on that partial tank. The lane keep and adaptive cruise control were handy when I needed to unscrew the lid on my soda, lol.
