4runner 4x4 insurance?

^^^ the best insurance out there and surprisingly dosent cost that much, in fact when insurance companies talk to me to try and get me to switch the just stop talking when i tell them i have USAA, the just say "oh, well have a nice day..." and know they cant compete.

and as far as getting hit at 2 am and the drive driving off or it happening in a parking lot and them driving off, thats what the "uninsured motorist" insurance is for, i am currently still paying on my runner so it HAS to have full coverage, but as soon as its paid off in the next year or less i will drop it down to liability and uninsured motorists. i would rather have my truck with a clean title and rebuild it than have a salvage title and still have to rebuild it, sure id get some money outta the deal. but the amount that i have saved over the past 6 or so years i could go out and buy a brand new runner and only have to make payments for about 6months. but i dont want to spend that if i dont have to, now if i total out my truck it wont be the end of the world and my life will go on ill just dip into "insurance" fund and fix it on my own. and if someone else hit me then i dont really have a choice, i will end up with a branded title which also isnt the end of the world(being as though i dont plan on selling my runner)

I have no accidents or tickets on my record. Drive a 2011 4X4 4Runner and have high coverage on all parts of insurance and I pay $650 a year. I live in Delaware. Vehicle is garaged and I have a multi-vehicle policy. Do some shopping around for a good company.

Mine is about $125.00 through Nationwide and my family all swapped over to her once I made the switch. I have 15 speeding tickets and have had too many sports cars. I have no points on my license and none of them have ever EVER reflected on my record. All the insurance company sees is clean and spik and span  THANKFULLY!! But N E who yeah I love my full coverage and as previous people in this thread have said " you think you are fine when some drunk ass%$^# come barreling down your road at 75 mph and has had too many BUD LIGHTS and smacks your truck while you are in bed sleeping".....Yeah that could happen to anyone bc others are stupid! Plus im happy bc since I knew her I have a 0 THATS RIGHT a $0.00 deductable! holla!!

p.s. Mines a 98 limited 4x4
p.s.s. I also even have rental car on my policy! Which they dont tell you but you have to ask for that! SO if you havent asked might want to!

There are a number of good points on this post as well as misinformed ones.

USAA/Progressive/Geico...ultimately you get what you pay for with insurance. In California, it is so heavily regulated, I would be skeptical on the insurance companies that are dirt cheap. If you are in CA, would advise you to look at the ratings on the CA Dept of Insurance website. Look at the number of claims vs number of paid claims. Also look at the financial strength of the company. Can this company pay if something were to happen? Some of you have dirt cheap insurance, big companies will not waste their time with people driven on price, its like convincing someone that loves walmart to motivate the to shop at REI. There are also a number of shady individuals out there, thus the stereotype in our industry. There are a number of ways to cut corners so the premium is cheap until you actually get into an accident...then youre SOL.

Yes I am an Insurance Agent, also represent that largest company in the US. So you may say I am biased.

Premiums are based on a number of things including:
1. location of vehicle
2. year of driving experience
3. marital status, even if you are single with kids you could save money
4. accident and ticket history
5. male/female
6. estimate annual mileage
7. discounts: bundling, multiple cars, good driving record, good grades, loyalty etc.
8. vehicle itself- there are third party vendors that determine the probability of theft, accident, etc.
9. I am sure I missed a few

Long story short, insurance is paying for piece of mind. Something intangible, sometime you pay in the event of an accident it will take care of you. Lots of fine print with all the companies out there. Insurance also protect your liability, in CA people sue like its the new trend. You could lose everything if you hit the wrong person. Thus liability is something we take seriously.

I would recommend liability no doubt. In terms of comp and collision...that is your own call/comfort level. Look at the cost difference and see if it makes sense.

Hope that helps. If not I wasted 80 secs of your life, sorry.

I am a vet and it is true the in order to apply you must be part of the 1% who serve past or present.

(sent from droid)

Yes, in order to get the insurance from USAA the person who applies needs to be a vet or active. However, once that person get a USAA account they can pass down membership to their children. Their children can then pass it to their spouses and kids ect....

So if you have a mom or dad who served, get them to sign up for USAA and then you can become a member.

X2 on USAA being a premium company.

I pay $800 per year for a 2011 Camry SE and a 2000 4Runner limited 4x4 both with full coverage through USAA

do you guys plan on wrecking your rigs in the next few weeks!? think of the money you would save it you just had liability, then take that money your are saving, put it into a good mutual fund or CD account or at least a money market account, every month putting the $30-40 or so in there and pretty soon you will have enough with intrest to buy and build a second runner or heaven forbid replace the "wrecked" one, and it wont have a salvage/branded title. unless i own money on something i dont pay for any extra insurance on it, its point less, you will never see it back when your vehicle gets totaled. all the money you have dumped into it for what? nothing, you will pay way more in the extra insurance than you will ever see back(unless you total out that vehicle in the first 18months)

You are out of your mind. IMO
who ever plans on wreckng there vehicle in a few weeks or even years. Yes you can save up to 30 bucks a month by not protecting your investment, but do the math.

4runner that can be replaced for 4k
at $30 a month savings, you would have saved the full value of the runner in just 133 months, or roughly 11 years...SO if you dont plan on wrecking your vehicle in the next 11 years, you will be fine skipping the coverage.

lets not forget, what if you do not total the vehicle, what if you smash a fender, headlight, radiator, fan, hood, grille, bumper, and windshield where your head smashes into it.
How long will it take your $30 to add up to even a 900 dollar parts bill? 30 months, about 2 and a half years. not to mention your 50k hospital bill and law suite from your passanger.

I have State Farm , and on top of great customer service, when we wrecked out 87 T4R with 221k on the clock, we were paid NADA value, plus sales tax for a grand total of $4230 the even paid us on the bumper and sliders. I gave 1500 for the truck 2 years ago.

Im just saying, if you have good insurance from a good company (not a cheap insurance broker) and you understand that vehicles get wrecked, stolen, flooded, burned, or even just a little damage from a minor fender bender evey few seconds in this country......well full coverage just feels like the best bet.

My wife and I pay $106 a month for full coverage on BOTH of our cars "combined".
She has a 1999 Lexus ES300 and mine is the 2002 4Runner.
From Geico.

I've had 2-3 tickets in the last 3 years and I have full coverage with low deductibles and I pay $50/month which is worth it since I just checked with my insurance and my truck was still valued at just over $6k so if it was totaled I could pretty much go buy another one and avoid having a payment. Yes,at a certain point full coverage might be a bit much but still getting an easy $5k back it's worth it.

What's wierd is that me at 19 and without "good grades" I have full coverage for $625 per year from travelers and I'm the cheapest on the policy out of my family (I'm assigned to the 4runner), my car isn't worth the least but It is the oldest so I suppose that could be it, but I am told that when my sisters were on at my age at all state it was over $2k a year per each of them and they had $7k cars...

I'm paying $125 a month for full coverge on the runner and a 2005 Malibu Maxx(don't ask ) with a $50K renters policy. Can't really complain.

It's weird because I have no accidents, I am 34, male, enjoy long walks on the beach, romantic comedies, and have 1 speeding ticket. I don't know what my rate is.

The bottom line is this IMO, if having to replace a $5000 vehicle would be a big hit for you financially, then get the full coverage. If not, stick with just the liability.

Jada- one of the things considered you left off is safety rating or claims rating of vehicles. Not sure I stated that properly but this is how it was explained to me. When I had my Dodge Ram was rated a 1 out of 5. Simply because pretty much anything I hit was going to be toast but damage to my vehicle was going to be minimal plus had good airbag safety rating. So they look at safety and average cost of repair based on databasee of previous claims for the vehicle. I beleive the 4 Runner is a 2 on that scale.

I'm with theKid on this one. It's liability only for me. If I total my 4runner and it's my fault, which I won't, I'll assume the risk. You may call that being naive or ignorant, but I don't believe it is. At some point, I'd like to insure myself. If it weren't for medical liabilities involved with car accidents, I would even forego liability insurance and cover the risk myself. I just don't believe that I will cause an accident. I could understand the argument for full coverage if having to replace your 4runner would "break the bank", but in my situation, it wouldn't. It would suck, but I could do it without any real problems. That's why I'm willing to assume the risk.

The wife's car, on the other hand, is full coverage, even though it would cost about the same to replace. You do the critical reasoning there....

Edit: $58/month for liability on my 4runner & full coverage for the wife's 2005 Malibu. 26 years old. No tickets.

rates are partially based on how much damage you might cause to others.
Credit
prior insurance history
claim history
driving record.

apples to apples is non existent in insurance. between different people.

$68/month for a 24 year old, full coverage and one accident. I'm on a plan with my dad and brother and we have 3 cars all together. I'd rather have full coverage and have a piece of mind.

keyword: your "dad"

you can most likely thank him for those awesome rates...

also, i have decently HIGH limits of liability w full cov and payabout 600 everysix months. and i DO HAVE TICKETS. not alot, but one is pretty major from my honda (i got a 4runner becuase i knew it was slow and bada$$)

68 a month for me and the wife full coverage. But to be honest I am glad this thread came up, I am going to drop the full on the wife's car. It's only worth like 3G's. I completely forgot we've been doing full converage.

If any of you guys have ever been in an accident that was the other party's fault, and had to deal with an adjuster from a company you don't do business with to get your vehicle fixed/replaced, you would find out right away why it's sometimes a good idea to have full coverage. It's going to be an uphill battle the whole way unless you get an adjuster who isn't a jerk, and that's a gamble. Something a lot of people don't consider until they are in the situation.
