4Runner a truck?

Well here is my 4Runner which looks like a truck..

The 3rd gen 4Runner is a mini truck. After that, the size of trucks changed( 4Runners and Tacomas increased in size) so I don't know if the current 4runners are minis anymore.
And also, starting with the 3rd Gen 4Runner/1st gen Prado, the Land Cruiser Prado was built on the [pre-existing] Hilux Surf (4Runner) platform, not the other way around.

Trucks come in lots of different shapes and sizes... I consider and refer to my 4R as a truck a lot.

At the same time, I never never once referred to a Honda Ridgeline as a truck, even though it has a truck bed. It has a lot more in common with a crossover suv or a regular passenger car in how its built.

I call mine my "rig." I've had quite a few people say, "nice rig." works for me.

One day trying to get the family ready to go somewhere was taking way to long so finally I yelled " Just get in the car !" . One of my boys ( 4 at the time ) stopped and looked at me and said " the 4Runner's not a car ". And then pointing at the Wife's Jeep Grand Cherokee which has a 3" lift and ARB bumper said " That's a car ". I love that boy .

Now I'm confused... The wife says "hey can you get the cat food out of the car?" ... Referring to her 2016 4Runner .... "Ummm sweetheart, don't let the heated pleather seats, navigation and smooth ride fool you: she's on a frame damnit!"

"Ya ya ya, just get the damn food please" ....

I don't think she's too concerned

first and foremost, i can stick a 4x8 piece of plywood in the back of my 4runner and secondly it's easy to classify things as either cars or trucks. Truck is a single syllable and is much quicker and easier to say than SUV... Also my 4runner is much, much more capable than most trucks...

so yeah, i call mine a truck

If your GF is nitpicking you everytime you call it a truck i can only imagine what other kinda bullshit you have to endure... Get a new GF

That's why I also keep a hefty bottle of lotion in it. Because you never know when you'll have to choose between a girl and your truck over a word haha

Well if this got 'Truck of the Year', then the 4runner is most definitely a truck.

It's the closest to "truck" an SUV can get. Sure sounds and feels like one

I've always argued with my girlfriend about my 4Runner because I like to call it a truck while she says it's just an SUV..which it is..But when getting tune-ups and stuff on the 4runner the reciepts say Truck on it...For some extra defense..what are some reasons why the 4Runner is a Truck?

Interesting points from everyone here . I think a lot of the confusion comes from how different regions and regulations classify vehicles. Like some mentioned, in the U.S. the 4Runner falls under the "light truck" category, whereas in Canada and elsewhere you’ll often see it treated differently.

At the end of the day, a pickup is still the most versatile when it comes to mixing daily driving with utility. If you’re running camping or overlanding setups, the ability to throw gear in the back or add a pick up roof tent really makes a difference. That’s where the line between SUV and truck becomes more about practicality than technical definitions.
