So I got this 1999 4Runner, bought brand new in 98' with 0 miles. Although I was a little punk in the back seat bothering my sister. Now I'm older and can drive so a couple years ago I took over the 4Runner unexpectadley. I really didn't like it at when I first got it (I just got my rsx repossessed). Surf the web around about Toyota's, and the 5VZFE engines to date and predecessor. What I found is that their engines are highly capable of power and reliable. At that point I new I had a good truck that would last better yet its brown. I believe they only made about 2,000 of them in the US, and I got a good one.
On to the damn story already.. So went to my friends house today and was gonna ask him to help me sound deaden my doors with some peel n seal. Hours went by and we forgot about it, we found all this fishing equipment in one of the attic boxes. We went down to the closest canal and me knowingly sunk my 4Runner in one of the deepest mud holes this little 2Wheeler has ever seen. I mean so deep it almost rolled over. The front passenger side was sunk leaving my front and rear driver side tires way in the air. I climbed out of the Runner grasping the bottom end of it, the door basically falling on my head. The truck looked like it was so tilted to the side that it would tip any moment . I hopped back in and set it in reverse..nothing, put in drive then reverse again, trying steering it to get the weight distribution back..nothing. Turns out there is no posi-traction in the rear end so it was a beautiful one wheel wonder.Luckily if it wasn't for a friendly neighbor to tug me out of there I might have had to call a tow service. Just a little tug out of there would have been at least around $100 or so. My question for you all is, Where can I get a posi rear end maybe, like a trd rear differential from a tacoma or something. I heard of ARB Air Lockers, but not too crazy about them. I would like to have OEM or as close to it as possible. Not too good with names around here, but the guy that one the Castrol oil contest Corvette2Korn I think thats his youtue account. He has a 2WD and has inspired me to put one on. P.S. this is a street rig and not planing to do any off road, just want the capability.
-Thanks
