Can't say that I like the looks but I do like the protection from door dings. What strip did you use and how is it attached? I might do the same thing for protection from inconsiderate slobs but mine is white so it won't look as good.

No, it would look too busy on the side, with the pin stripe, chrome door handles and the extra chrome strip above the cladding.
