4runner death

Dealer's nice but doesn't have a clue. They say it's the fuse box, which they have to order from New Jersey. After talking to them I thought that that makes no sense since the car had accessory power.

A friend of mine said said she thought it was the fuel pump -- which made a lot of sense.

Wasn't the fuse box. Let's try the computer . . . That's at least a week.

DEFINITELY NOT the fuse box. My truck had the opposite symptoms of yours- engine started but all accessories were off- and it was a blown fuse.

I definitely agree with your friend. That makes a lot more sense to me.

The fact that the truck stalls and then does not crank would exclude any fuel delivery issues. However, given the complexity of the ignition, security system, efi and other electronics invloved in the "auto crank" feature the speculation by both dealer and forum members will be quite extensive.

The way I see it, you have two choices. Fight the long and arduous battle with toyota customer service until arbitration, or trade the truck in on a day its running. When you consider all the lost time, rentals, rides to the dealer and STRESS to pursue this repair to completion, I think you will be much better off leaving the truck in a dealers used inventory.

That's if they can get it running. I am keeping both options open, trust me.

Lemon Law

It's not quite that simple. I've been through a lemon law case (that I won, by the way) and it is much more difficult than most people realize to get a buy-back on your car.

Current status:

Computer still on backorder. Expected around 5/17 (which makes the car out of service for 20 days).

In NY, if the vehicle is out of service for 30 days w/in the 1st 18k miles or 2 years (whichever is sooner) for one or more reasons, it is presumed il limon. You can start an arb w Mr. Spitzer, which you usually get w/in 30 days. Another lawyer I know who handles a lot of these says it's pretty cookie cutter.

Driving a Camry but paying for a 4runner. Gee, I wonder if I would have said "I only have money for a Camry, but can I have a 4runner" what the dealer would have said?

Before or after they stopped laughing?? :D

Too bad that the computer is on backorder. Sure hope it fixes the problem.
