4runner doesn't or does have these features?

I think I am more used to it than anything, I cant remember any of my cars not having this feature. Again, if the wife is by herself more illumination is better. Not a deal breaker, I still love the rig, but something I did expect on a 42k vehicle. The reason I posted this thread is I didnt know if I was overlooking something in the manual. It looks like it doesnt have the approach lights and is not able to unlock in one swipe. So now its on to the lift and Icon Stage 5, cant wait to hit the malls!

It's funny you want lights for safety, but want to disable the safety feature with the unlock button. The first push only unlocks driver door in case there is someone hiding on the passenger side. This is a safety feature that multiple auto makers have been using since at least 2000. There were actually issues with people unlocking the whole car and criminals slipping into the car with the owner. Now for the headlights. If you are walking toward the car from the front, the headlights coming on not only will just light you up, but will darken all objects around the headlights making it more difficult for you to see anything near your car. If you want your vehicle to be well lit, park in a well lit area.

I have the Fyre fly 12 piece kit sitting in the garage (3014 series). But it looks like I still need to get the vanity LED's and the outside side mirrors since the kit didnt come with those, I will be making that call today.

theres a good set you can buy at your local auto shop made by sylvania. they;re smaller than the standard LED's but just as bright. made by sylvania

I actually called up Fyre Fly today and got the reverse lights, Visor and Side mirror lights. Alan double checked everything for me. Great customer service and fair pries. I went with the 1310's.

Dealer can program your locks. I have a 2015 limited and first thing I had them do was change the door lock setting where I put my hand on the door it unlocks all the doors, instead of just the drivers door. Yes there are some safety issues with that but at least your passengers won't try to rip the door off to get it. No idea if this will cost anything since my bro is a service manger I don't always pay for the little stuff.

Also if you leave the lights on and hit lock twice on your fob the lights will turn off.

Great, where did you buy yours from?

Carista is an app you buy for your phone/ipad. I use it with a cheap OB2 interface from Amazon. The one I got was Veepeak Mini WiFi OBD2 OBDII. The Carista version you buy on Amazon is excellent as well, but costs a bit more.

For your headlight request, IIRC, the headlights, if left on, will turn off automatically after a specified time. They will come back on when the car is disarmed.

I don't recall if the headlights need to be on before you park the vehicle for this function to activate or not, but I do know that my headlights came on once when I disarmed the vehicle. Just tested it while it was parked and the lights stayed on for over 5 minutes before I just went back out and turned them off manually. FYI, I just turned them on in the garage and armed then walked away, which is why I think you need to have them on prior to parking the car and not just turn them on after you've exited the car.

If that doesn't work for you, then there's always one other option, and that's to install an aftermarket alarm and just do away with the oem keyfob altogether. A good alarm shop can install relays and diodes to have the lights on function how you want it to. They can even get really fancy and have that function only when its dark outside!

I actually tied that. Left them on when I turned the 4runner off and then locked it. Hit unlock and the headlights never came on. I am going to look into the option above. But the aftermarket alarm isn't a bad idea either. Ill soon have 12k into it so its probably a good idea to have an aftermarket alarm with Kill Switch.

I don't mind the lock confirmation, but can do without the unlock noise. I can't find anything in the manual for my '11 4runner about quieting the lock tones. Can this mod be done at home or does it require special equipment?
