Hello- I have posted on this site before. Used to own a 3rd Generation 1999 4Runner. I am in California and came across this classic while perusing Craigslist.

My new ride 1985 4Runner SR5 4WD R22E. I am so thrilled! I named him Diego and plan on taking him home to Sacramento soon. He is currently in San Diego.

I have some minor body repairs to get done. My plan is to repaint him but keep his original color. Also need new rear bumper.

His last owner had him since 1988 and took excellent care of him! All original except for rear bumper.

I am curious what you folks think I should consider in mods as I get minor body work done. I want to add a brush guard with lights. Small stuff. I am very proud to have the chance to post under the 1st generation section!!

More Soon!

Michelle

Nice find! That's a color u don't see very often. U are wise to want to keep it all original, as the 85 is thee most collectible 4RNR of all. The interior is really clean. P.S. Don't add an ugly grill guard. Please. P.S.S. Find some nice original rims. :thumb3:

Thanks!

Hey thanks for the feedback. Something told me to search Craigslist and I decided to check around San Diego. I believe it was meant to be.

I am leaving sunny Cali for Ohio. Taking a new job. I'm concerned about salt damage. What would you recommend in terms of protectant of undercarriage and exterior? I don't expect to take it out much in the winter bc of my concern with rust. I really just want to love on this truck and restore him to his original beauty. Is there a special coating that can be placed in the paint to help offer some protection?

I would love to keep you all posted on my work with Diego. I enjoy hearing the feedback. Thanks again!

Hi all- I have this beauty parked in a climate controlled garage in Chicago, Illinois. Looking for someone who can do some mechanical and body work who wont rip me off. Any suggestions? Many thanks for the referrals. Best, Michelle

Hi all- I found a 4x4 shop in Chicago with excellent reviews. Thom's Four Wheel Drive Will keep you posted. Plan to get him in the shop as soon as we get the snow and salt off Chicago roads. Diego has never been driven in the winter. I drive him around the garage periodically to run him-- starts up the first time, all the time. New windshield installed yesterday. Getting new wipers blades. Found a company to redo the headliner. For any one out there near Chicago, happy to share my contacts. I lived in N. Cali for a bit and have great 4Runner connections there too. Happy new year to all my fellow 1st gen owners out there!!

windshield molding

Hello! I am looking for replacement windshield molding- its chrome finish and basically covers edge. The left and right side need replacement. Called Toyota today and left side (drivers side) is apparently on back order from japan. Looked on other sites for parts but no luck. Any suggestions from the group for best place to find these parts? May thanks. Best, Michelle
