4runner for trekker???

ok so i found a toyota trekker with a really decent body (no rust) the engine hasnt been started in a few years and its been in an old barn. i absolutely love that body style and the only reason i got a 4runner is because the 22re and i can haul my instruments safely. im thinking really hard about swapping everything i can from my 4runner to the trekker, i.e. motor, wheels tires, rear axle, lift, some interior stuff. my question is will all of the drive train (except the ifs stuff) swap over to it? its a 1981. shouldnt it all be plug and play for the most part? i would just deal with the 22r thats in it but my 22re is rebuilt along with the tranny behind it. thoughts???

Hit up Slacker here on the forums. He's got a restored Trekker and could probably tell you everything you know.

Just off the top of my head, your rear axle is going to be wider. You should be able to drop your third into the trekker housing, though.
 
i would sell all my 4runners for a trekker!!!
they just look sweet with the bubble fenders and the rounded rear quarters.
i will donate a 22re for you with full harness and computer if you restore this thing. if you dont bite on it LET ME KNOW ASAP

ok as far as swapping your stuff technically you could swap everything in the driveline but you may end up making a new cross member at the worst. the engine mounts should be the same. but keep the trekker as Original as possible it will be more money in the end if you sell it.

well yes i know the rear is wider. but it has pretty much new everything, breaks, bearings, i went through my whole truck last summer. i would get a set of front wheel spacers to even things out.

i will send slacker a message and see what he has to say. i would love to keep this thing as original as possible but i cant pass up my rebuilt 22re. and i would love to sell my 4runner but near where i live the parts on a vehicle are way more valuable than the vehicle itself. thats why im not selling it but.... if someone wants to donate an engine to me and a wiring harness i could rebuild it, sell it, then split the profit.

Thurlo76 , anything is possable , depending on your "skills" most of the "stuff" from the 4Runner will wok , just not bolt on .
engine will bolt in , but will need to be "wired" , this is not plug and play .
wheels are same bolt pattern , but different offset .
as mentioned , diff is wider , so needs welding .
interior is different and needs "fitting"

i used the rear seats in my Trekker , but widened the tub 4" and sectioned 2" out of the seats , rear roll bar was "cut to fit" ect ect ...

That is one gorgeous truck, slacker! I always did like the body style of those earlier Yota trucks, and yours is immaculate. Well done!
