4runner fulfills Jeep mission

Back story.
We moved to AZ from CA 3 years ago. Two kids came with us, two stayed in CA. One is now moving to AZ.
So, son #2 (of 4 kids) was heading to CA to get son #3 and bring him to AZ as he starts a new job here Monday.
Son #2 (who doesn't care to know about cars) is driving our 04 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I get a call (I'm a truck driver and in Kansas at the moment) that "the steering locked up and it's overheating!" We know it's the serpentine belt, son has no clue.
Fortunately he was just 15 miles from home, 5 miles from my work.
So he gets the Jeep to a parking lot. Wife is taking him to my work to take my 4runner and complete his mission of getting his brother.
Wife is having the Jeep towed home and she'll replace the belt tomorrow. Or I'll oversee son doing it Monday.

Considered a used 4runner for my 16yr old driver. Prices were a bit much for a new driver. She ended up with a Grand Cherokee. I'd feel bad if she scratched/ dented a 4runner. Not so much with a GC.

another Runner-saves-Jeep story...happens all the time...

i considered the same for my 18yr old to take to college...found the same-prices a bit much for me...so i went a bit smaller and got her an 06 Corolla...

I'd love to get her a Rav4 tho...she likes SUV/Xovers sort of like her old man.

Tomorrow the Jeep gets an idler and belt.
Son #3 will take the 4runner to his first day of work. I'll drop off son #2 at work and head into town for parts (and taxes).
When all the new vehicles have issues, my 68 F100 keeps on trucking

Now a new mission for the 4runner.
Son #3 that just started work and is staying with us got a call at midnight Fri.
His Wife and kids (2½ year old and 10 month old) were coming to visit. 500 miles one way.
The midnight call was their Kia caught fire about halfway through the trip. Fortunately they were in a city and not in the middle of the desert. CHP was there almost immediately, extinguished the fire, and took them to a motel.
They are safe.
Both sons headed out to rescue them. Kia was towed to a shop Sat morning. Shop is closed until Monday.
They were going to drive them back home, but I suggested they continue to our house (in AZ). This way there are more options. If their car is easily repaired we can drive them back for their return. If not, they can take the (recently repaired) Jeep or the 4runner to use until their Kia is repaired or replaced.
I vote they take the 4runner as it's our newest and safest vehicle (2017 with 32k miles). But being used to a Kia, I don't think she'll be comfortable driving it. We'll see. I think she'll prefer the 04 Jeep WJ.
No one wants to drive my Wifes 07 Ram 2500, or my 68 F100, lol.
DIL & grandbabies are staying in CA with her Dad (an a-hole) until son gets a house here for them. Shouldn't take too long.
