decided to lace up and test out my new RUD grip 4x4 chains. The package says "rud compact grip" which are 'better' then then grip 4x4, so I'm not 100% sure which set I have.
This is all the private farm land of my father in law, beautiful area.
easy to install, maybe 2 minutes. You can install them without moving, so you could be stuck. After install, you roll 20-30 feet then re-check and tighten.
I have the v6 4x4. In 2wd I could not move at all. Perhaps if I could defeat the vsc I would have generated a little momentum in 2wd but other then that it was all 4x4 (and mostly 4x4 lo at that).
I think the chains don't fit on the front with the oem or upsized tire because of the a-arm and other clearance issues. The manual states "only chain the rear"
The rear is a tow-ring from "princess auto". I like it for recovery because unlike a hook you can't 'slip off' it once your clevis is attached. 2nd use is to worsen departure angle and be "sacraficial" when comming off a rock or whatever.
Yes we must have got a good 20cms...at the time I was up north on the farm. I returned the next day. Part of the highway was slippery and snow covered. (portage to wpg).
So how do you think you would do out there if you had no chains and were locked in 4lo or 4hi .
On Dec 1st we had 12" snow fall I was all over hell and it handled fine. Had to have the diff. locked to prevent VSC from kicking in so I could really giver hell. Atrac was kickin in and worked well.
