4Runner Interior LED Light Swap

It's really not bad, if you pry off just the back shell you run the risk of breaking the clips that hold the shell in. I've seen others mention that. Honestly the mirrors take about 5 minutes, you pop off the mirror which is 4 clips then you can access the clips that hold the back shell piece on, then it's just a couple screws, very simple.

Having done this 2 or 3 times now I really recommend just removing the mirror glass and then popping the painted shell off. It really just makes it easier to access everything without breaking the clips. Like I said, 5 minutes tops, reassembly is also simple, the turn signal and trim pieces literally snap back into place, easy peasy

Doing this, have you noticed any shake in the mirror while driving? I swapped out the bulbs in my Lexus GS450h and now the mirror has a noticeable shake while driving on highway speeds. Is this a problem with the 4runner?

I've had my mirrors apart 2 or 3 times and haven't noticed any rattling, just make sure not to break the clips

I started with the map lights and then got the dome and tailgate lights, all of them switchable.
The instructions are very well written, and I love the ability to use the red lights at night.
Only downside is the price. But they are certainly well made.

Bugs are not generally attracted to red lights, so if you are out camping, or just unloading the back at night, you won't attract bugs when the tailgate is open.
Or if you and your SO camp in the back, you can use them for general lighting without lighting up the whole cabin with white light if the other person is asleep.

I put the red LEDs on the mirror lights that point down when you unlock the vehicle with the FOB. Just because it looks cool. All the others are white.

Mine have been running strong since November 2017.
I have Diode Dynamics LED's in the reverse lights.

I’ll second the Diode Dynamics recommendation. I redid my interior lights about two years ago with LEDs from Diode Dynamics and they’re still going strong.

On the flip side one of the JDM Astars that I used for the license plate about six months in. I replaced them with genuine Phillips LED bulbs.

I just used the youtube videos for installation guides. Most bulbs are pretty direct, but I did pick up a trick for the map lights which was just to sandwich the bulb in a folded piece of duct tape to remove. The video for the cargo area was also helpful because it shows where the cover latch is located and how it releases.

JDM astar is legit for interior lights. i haven't had issues with my purchase.

i used jdm astar in my courtesy lights and they are great.

i have a cross post here looking for help/advice:

ran into what i hope is not a big problem:

as i was attempting to put the drivers side map light LED in, I could not get it to fit. the passenger side also gave me trouble but I managed to get it in and the light worked fine. on the drivers side i was pushing the LED but not too hard and wiggling it a little to see if that would help. then all of a sudden SNAP! the plug for the light looks intact, but im assuming its the surrounding plastic "housing" or attachment piece broke off and is up in the console. i can still see it, but i could also move it around when i tapped it w a needle nose pliers. i know i will have to take the console off which wont be very hard, but god damnit am i mad at myself for this one! hopefully it is just a piece of plastic that maybe i can krazy glue back together. i dont think any of the electrical aspect of it is damaged (at least what i could see before dropping the console).

I first came across this option:

But it seems virtually every other option is cheaper. I don't want the bargain bin might-not-work/might-be-dangerous install of LEDs... but how on earth do I select between the plethora of options that are all... effectively the same thing?

LEDs aren’t dangerous. Only the installer’s lack of diligence is dangerous. This forum is a great place to seek advice and assistance.

I spent about $30 to do the entire interior and license plate lights. Based on reviews of others I don't see much of an advantage to spending 5x that much. If a bulb goes out in a year or two I replace it costs about $1 a bulb. I love the look of interior LED over halogen.

9 months ago I installed a "cheap" set of LED lights and they have worked without fail. Free shipping Front reading / Rear reading / Hatch lights Lamp Bulbs LED replacement For 2010-2019 Toyota 4Runner

I have taken all sorts of areas of the 4Runner apart and installed all manner of things, same as lots of folks here on the forum. Otherwise it is an option to pay someone else to perform the install if do-it-yourself is worrisome.

Besides, the 4Runner has fuses for any short circuit issues but a competent owner/installer should be able to handle LED lights, skid plates, suspension or other upgrades without screwing anything up.
