4Runner Keyless Entry :: Plz Help

// Does anyone know how to program a keyless entry key flop??

* We bought 1996 Toyota 4Runner and it didn't come w/Remote so v just purchased a key flop for it from Dealer. I got instructions from the place but after many attempts, it didn't work.

I Can't get past step #2, the LED light doesn't come on at all. I looked at the EDU fuse and everything looked good. I don't know why the light doesn't come on and remote doesn't function even if I try to skip Step #2. any ideas?

To program (add) a remote control to the system:

1: Insert the key into the ignition switch and turn it to on.

2: Press and hold the ECU's programming switch for 3 seconds. The status monitors LED turns on for 5 seconds.
***You must perform the next step within 5 seconds***
3: Press and release a remote controls top or bottom button. Either button on your remote control can be programmed to operate the RS3000. The status monitors LED turns off. The piezo chirper chirps once. The exterior lights flash once.

4: Turn off the ignition. The ECU will now operate with the remote control just programmed.

Note: The factory preset operation is for the top button on both remote controls to operate your system; the bottom button is not programmed. To prevent accidental erasure of a remote controls code, we recommend that you program all your remote controls at the same time.

Those instructions are for a vehicle 5 years newer! There is a Fujitsu (assume you have the VIP 3200) FAX back site where yo can get the manual faxed to you. Try following which are for a '99 4Runner:

Step 1 - open drivers side door and get in your vehicle.

Step 2 - put key completely into ignition,then pull out.

Step 3- with door open, lock and unlock 5 times on door console (ten clicks total).

Step 4 - close door then open door.

Step 5 - lock and unlock 5 times on door console (ten clicks total).

Step 6 - put key completely into ignition then turn to the on position then pull key out (you will now hear the door locks lock then unlock a couple of times)

Step 7 - now quickly press the lock and unlock buttons at the same time only for about a second.

Step 8 - then quickly press the lock button for just a second.

Step 9 - exit car and close the door

After you do this you should hear a beep then your lights will flash. This will indicate that your remote is programmed to your vehicle

Wow...Thats one heck of a process to program a transmitter.

Last Friday, we spoke to a really nice guy in Toyota Dealer service department explained the problem to then and he asked us to bring the vehicle in for free inspection. Can't beat that, took the 4Runner in "guy we spoke to on the phone was the service dept manager" he himself looked @ the fuses/wiring/ECU box & Resolution = Fried ECU box , anyways he advised us to go w/third party's system since their box is expensive. Oh well we returned the keyless entry remote on the spot and got our money back & decided to save up some money to get a nice alarm system w/starter.
