hey all, I recently became the proud owner of an '04 4Runner Limited. Got the car with 55,700 miles, In the two weeks I've had it, I've put nearly 1k miles on it (road trip this weekend).
I'm loving the vehicle so far, however I am taking it in to the shop on Tuesday for the following issues:
1.) Sulfur smell when accelerating (mainly noticed with tailgate window down) - I saw the TSB on this and figured I would get it done since my car is still in warranty.
*note on issues 2 and 3: These issues are still present after having tire alignment, rotation and balance done last week at my local Firestone.
2.) Steering wheel pulls slightly to the left at times. The Runner came with Dunlop AT20s on it. The tread looks to be in pretty good condition, I don't know if they are the original tires that came with the vehicle or not.
3.) There is a very noticeable steering wheel vibration (shimmy?) that occurs between 60 and 75mph (don't really go much faster then that, so not sure if it happens above that speed) When this occurs, the steering wheel will shake harshly. Whats extremely weird about it is that it is not consistent, sometimes it will shimmy at 65mph, other times it will be smooth. Sometimes it will start out shaking at 70mph and then smooth out, only to start again when I go back down to somewhere in the 60s.
4.) The engine seems to have a high-pitched wine when in park or neutral. It goes away if I put the vehicle in drive or reverse. This noise may be within standard specs, what do you guys think?
5.) Service TSBs - ok, I'm aware that there are multiple TSBs out there for my vehicle which i seem to still be eligible for under warranty. I am not familiar with the process for these. Should I go into my Toyota dealership (note: i bought the car from a dealer several states away, this is just my neighborhood toyota dealership where I will be getting future work done) and insist they perform all TSBs? Would they even do that?
This 4runner is the first car I've purchased on my own (I'm only 24, all my previous cars have been handme downs from my parents) so forgive me if Im asking simple questions, I'm really hoping people here can give me some tips on how to proceed with the issues above.
