4Runner Noob - 2004 SR5

Howdy All,

I just purchased a 2004 SR5 in pristine condition and 19K original miles, 1 owner, no wrecks, verified with carfax.

This has some bells and whistles, but, I'm looking for suggestions on what to mod. I'd like to keep it simple, but also enhance the driving and cruising experience.

Audio is a forgone conclusion (the head is a double din) but which head is the question. What are your thoughts in the forums favorite double din unit. Can I just replace the head and then follow with the speakers at a later (not much though) time?

I see that people have done head/tail/reverse light replacements as well. What brands seem to be the best for the buck?

Here's what's on it now as it sits:

Cargo net
Slider that covers the cargo area
AC cigarette adapter in cargo area
Rear A/C
Cargo roof rack
Cloth Seats
Running Boards
Privacy Glass
Power windows
Little cell phone slot with AC adapter
Standard Badging

1st Mod:
Trailer Hitch Cover - Bottle opener!
A man's got to have priorities.

Any constructive suggestions would be appreciated.

Well, here is my list in the order I'll likely do them:

Rear diff breather extension mod
Hitch shackle + snatch strap + some shackles
Secondary battery & separator
Additional power outlets (Glovebox, center console, wired to 2nd battery)
On-board air compressor
Shrockworks sliders
Underside armor
3" suspension lift & stiffer springs (Sway-a-way?)
Maybe upper control arm replacement
Shrockworks bumper & winch
Spacers to help with...:
Bigger tires
Rear tire/high lift mount
Safari rack/basket

Just some ideas, dunno if I'll ever get past #4 or #5 due to wife aggro...

Sounds like a very cool list! I'll have to incorporate a good number of those into my list as well.

Sounds like you're going to have a sweet ride. Based on the calander age of the vehicle I would consider having the brakes and coolant flushed/changed soon. It's approaching the 5 year mark. Considering the low mileage those things may get overlooked. Both of those critical fluids suffer as much from the years as they do mileage.
