4Runner Offroad Parts

I have a friend that is a fabricator and is considering making bumpers, sliders, skid plates, etc for 4Runners. There doesn't seem to be a ton of options available to us, so he wants to know from those on the forum what options/parts you'd like to see available?

My thought initially would be bumpers, but also lower link skids, maybe replacement lower control arms, sliders to name a few.

Thoughts?

Does he only work with steel? I would really like a low profile aluminum roof rack. I also would like lighter weight options for front and rear plate style bumpers with no hoops. Front would have to be able to support a winch but doesn't necessarily need to be a battering ram and flows well with the lines of a 3rd Gen Limited.

I would like to see someone make some good tow hooks for the 4th gen 4runners. Those factory tie down hooks are weak. I would like to see something especially for the front that bolted to the frame and had some real strength to it without going to an ARB bumper. I can not believe Toyota lets such capable machines be made without decent tow hooks. I think the 5th gens are the same way, even the Trail edition.

How about an affordable catalytic converter anti theft plate/device?

I see a lot of people getting theirs stolen.

Mud guards for going under the rear bumper, right behind the tires, above the "mud flaps" the bumper gets caked with mud, im doing some today! Just so i dont have to clean under the back as much after i go wheelin.

good at bending tubing huh? i would love to see a tube style rear bumper for the 4th gen! Addicted has one for the third gen but nothing in the works for a 4th... big bumper to deal with and no interest in a tire carrier but would love to replace the rear!
what about a alum. rack deep enough to actually hold something!

I second this, they are HOT in my area. Lucky me mine is parked behind a huge gate, but i would hate to go to a friend's house and come out missing my cat.

I would also like to see a tube rear bumper and swing out tire carrier with jerry can holder and maybe hi jack holder for a 2nd gen. I haven't been able to find any.

I think the initial plan is to make armor for 4th Gens and then make bumpers. I will definitely let you know what's brewing!

I am ointerested in an aluminum skid plate for the front of a 3rd gen

Is your friend going to do any 3rd gen custom work? I know there are a lot of options already, but custom is always better. Anyway I look forward to seeing you post up some of his work.

No 3rd Gen, plenty of stuff out there. Working on 4th and maybe 5th is he can get his hands on one
