ok.. so im torn between giving my wife the g35 or 4runner... i drive 70 a day round trip to work and she drives 3 miles... g35 forum vote came even... thinking of what you guys here would do... so basically should i keep the 4runner or g35? you got 10 days to vote.. help out a confused airman..

Any kids? Does the wife do the grocery shopping? If so, it's a lot easier getting things in and out w/ the 4Runner. Pretty much whoever would get the most use from it?

tough call for sure; which one has more miles currently and which one do you plan to keep longer?
Do you wheel the 4R?
I think the G35 is going to have less resale value so you might want to think about having the wife drive that to keep the miles low to be able to get rid of it - as the 4R is just going to go up in price if you keep good care of it (even with a sh*it load of miles).
My final answer: this is a 4R forum so I vote Toyota!

I say give her the Runner. It stays in the family, you have access etc. It's more fun to have a newer car than a newer family workhorse. A well kept, low mileage, 7 year old T4R is freakin' awesome! A high mileage, semi-worn out G not-so-much. It's more fun to replace a 'G' like car every 3,4 or 5 years. It gives the opportunity to get a G37 or IS-f or whatever. This is all based on the assumption that your off-roading is minimal AND you have the huge commute.
IMHO, there's not nearly as much fun in going from a 2005 to a 2009 T4R. The technology doesn't leap ahead the way it does in the car world. Once you get into a decent technology (stability and a Torsen center diff) it's all the same. Before everyone flames me, I know! (FJC super ATRAC vs ATRAC1 is huge. I know that there are other real differences but you get the idea... Throw a little lift and a locker in a an '03 and it's a hell-of-vehicle.)

currently the g35 has more miles then the runner... iv'e been using the runner for about a week now and really like the comfort in driving... but i miss the hp that the g35 provides... i know i can drive it on the weekends but it's not as fun as driving it without the wifey.. come to think of it, i haven't driven the g for almost 2 weeks now... we still use the runner on weekends..

Give her the G35, keep the 4Runner for yourself.
The G35 over long distances is liable to get you into more trouble (speeding tickets) and with the amount you drive, you're more likely to be in an accident in which the 4Runner will help you out with.
The gas mileage is a pretty moot point, as if you took the G35 and drove far (and probably fast) the mileage would come down.
Because the G35 is using the VQ engine, it'll last longer than the car itself (notice any creaks? squeals? how is the transmission? how is the wear on the tires?), but the car won't last as long as the Toyota.
Because you're spending more time in the 4Runner, the additional space is nice to have for "things" (spare clothes, gear, etc.).
BTW, you didn't mention "Coupe" or "Sedan".

The 4Runner is basically a brick, which is one reason why it doesn't get much better mileage on the highway than it does around town (typically only 4 or 5 MPG difference). The G35, even driven at a higher average speed on the highway, will still get much better fuel economy than the 4Runner. I had an '03 G35 Coupe 6MT and usually got around 28 MPG highway and I was always speeding around in that car because it was so much fun to drive fast. I actually wish I still had the car. I'm not as much of a fan of the styling of the new one. Still looks good, but not nearly as much as the timeless styling of mine!

I get about 18 with the G35 driving to/from Tahoe-San Jose (246 miles). On the way up from SJ, the 4Runner will average 18, but back I can hit 20 (depending how fast I drive).
Both ways, 3.5 to 4 hours excluding traffic incidents (e.g. snow)
G35 - 70-85 mph typically, 4Runner - 72mph via the cruise control.
