4Runner or Tacoma Truck?

Currently in the market for a second vehicle.
I have been looking at the 4Runner for sometime now and would like to get one this year but I have one dilema.
On occassion (about 3 - 4 times per year) I need to haul about 3 - 4 sheets of 4' x 8' plywood. As far as I know, its not possible on a 4Runner. Can anyone tell me if there is anyway I can do this with a 4Runner? If so, I wouldn't consider the Tacoma even though I think its a good truck.

Anyone had similar delima or experiences hauling large items?

Easy solution--

Just buy yourself a light-duty, small trailer that can handle a sheet of plywood.

It will probably come in handy for other stuff as well.
 
Well, since 4Runner's come pre rigged/wired for towing, I would suggest picking up a cheap ass utility trailer to haul that type of stuff for those few times a year :)

Why didn't I think about think about that option.

Are these trailer that you speak of pretty expensive? $1000+ ?
 
Yeah at harbor freight you can get them pretty cheap, you have to add your own plywood and 2 X4 for fence. Home Depot and Lowes have metal ones for 500 to 700 bucks for one, I have a local place that can build one for 350 to 500 bucks and it has a drive up gate, the gate drops and you can roll up heavy equipment.

Of course you have to have a place to park it and get it registered. Even better, have a friend like I do and borrow his. If you decide to buy one expect to have a lot of friends.:D

A) Roof rack and ratchet tie downs!!

B) Home Depot sells cheap trailers. Mine cost me $250 about 7 years ago, and it folds to save space. I only use it for hauling big stuff to the town dump (twice a year). But everyone else in my family uses it way more than me.

You are 100% correct!
1. I am prode to be one of the friends of a "trailer owner"
2. You have to add liner and fence. You dan do it by yourself. That is exactly my friend did. He can remove part of fence to carry 2x8x12 or even longer.
You can surely find from other places as peter78 said.
 
Home Depot also rents a big flat bed truck.

When I buy some soffit and facia in the spring, I'm renting it. Soffit is 12', facia is 16'. My brother has a Tundra. But it is not worth the hassle or potential for damage to his vehicle.

I think it is $35 the first hour or something.

I may get the folding trailer to haul stuff to the dump.

2001 Schwinn Straight 8 that I built frame up.. It's horrible overkill for the type of DH riding I do a few times a year. Typically up at Mt Snow or Killington in VT. I'm not a "go big" rider.

A bike not pictured that I do ride a lot is my 04 Specialized Stumpjumper FSR. I can't wait for the Spring thaw, or at least until the snow melts, so I can go for a ride!!
 
roof rack or utility basket. I haul 4x8 sheets of plywood w/no problems. handles 2x4s & ladders too.

or, visit UHaul, Ryder or Penske. I wouldn't make a choice based on using the truck bed 3-4 times a year. You can buy the hardware to make your own lightweight trailor for something like $150, the wood you supply.
