4Runner Owner Once Again

I fell in love with the 4R while in college (had two different 1st gens back in the day) but went the Subaru route for the past decade. While a ton of fun to drive, I could never use them for road trips with the dogs or camping. I finally left the WRX life and picked up a 2019 Sr5 Premium a few weeks ago and it is exactly what I needed.

Every time I try to upload a photo is gives me an error but I am sure you all have seen your share of 5th gens so I'll figure that part out later.

Anyways I have already learned a ton from this forum in the past few weeks and look forward to continuing my 4R education!

Well for one, coming from back to back WRX's I can say that the 4Runner is sloooow lol. Not that I drive fast at all, usually have dogs in the vehicle so I take it easy, but getting up to speed on the interstate isn't very impressive. Other than that, maybe fuel economy? The T4R isn't must worse than my old AWD Turbo's, the console MPG readout shows I average about 15mpg.

Comparing WRX to 4Runner in acceleration? Let me give you my perspective. The fastest Toyota I’ve owned was a 1984 Supra that did 0-60 in 8.5 seconds on a good day. My 2019 4Runner is a full second quicker. It’s all in perspective, I guess.

As for mpg, my measurements agree with the 20.7 on the dash calculator. I accelerate slowly - maybe that’s why.

Hopefully durability ends up being a fair trade-off in your case. It has been for me.

100% agree with you regarding durability. Spun a bearing at 68k miles and the thankfully Subaru picked up 80% of the $15k bill.

The 4R will get me more places, more comfortably and with more members of the family. That is the main reason we bought it. Not to mention less frequent oil changes and regular vs premium fuel.

Most things in life have trade-offs and I believe I made the correct choice in the 4Runner.

Congrats. What is amazing is that your gas mileage is probably the same and might even be better. My older brother has a 2018 WRX and likewise my best friend and the gas mileage is amazingly bad for the size of both the engine and the car. Of course, getting into the turbo and or throttle will result in poor MPG, but even the EPA ratings are quite low.
