4Runner/Pickup frames compatability

Hi folks,

This is my first post here, and I expect to spend a bit of time lurking around here.

I have been doing some research, but I haven't come across a satisfyingly clear answer to this question-

Is the frame for an 85 toyota pick up the same frame as a 4Runner? I have been searching for a couple of weeks for a an 85 4Runner frame but can't find one. On the other hand, I have found a pretty nice frame from an 85 regular cab Toyota pick up. Are these two frames interchangeable? I am trying to put together a custom build 4Runner around the original 85 frame and solid axle. Will the pick up frame be the same as a 1st gen runner?

Standard bed, standard cab frames are the same length as the 4runner frames although the body mounts with the exception of the front 2 that I know of for sure are in different locations. The extended cab pickup has the same mounting locations in the cab section (6 bolts) but the frame is too long and the holes for the bed do not line up. I know there have been people who put 4runner bodies on pickup frames though so definitely doable, just need to relocate a few mounting holes.

Just off the top of my head, the rear spring lengths are different, gas tank mounts are different, all the body mounts behind the B pillar will be different, and the way some rear bumpers mount up will be different, tho that depends on the bumper. OTOH, the cab mounts should be the same? The front spring hangars will be the same, motor mounts and transmission crossmember are the same, the front crossmember is the same, all the frame brackets for the fuel lines and brake lines and such should be the same.

The frames are basically the same, the single cab pickup frame is what the 4Runner is based on. You'll have to move/fab a couple things like body mounts and spring hangers and gas tanks traps, but you can make it work.
