I'll chime in because I was in the exact same situation. The TRD Pros in SoCal were being marked up like crazy and I knew I was gonna add some stuff to the 4runner anyways so I ended up opting for the TRD ORP with KDSS because I drove both and the KDSS was the turning point for me. It definitely helps out and smooths the ride a lot in my personal opinion. I wanted a white one so the TRD Pro exclusive colors benefit was not a factor for me. I'm glad i went with the TRD ORP and I added a suspension, TRD Rims, TRD Pro Grill and 285 Nittos (Check out by build in the link in my signature) all for less than a stock Pro. I have no regrets but you gotta ask yourself i you want the name " TRD Pro" .

I went with the TRD ORP for a couple of reasons.
1. i wanted KDSS. As others have stated, It greatly improves onroad handling and I'm not worried about repairs, it's not as rare as people make it out to be - esp in CO.
I have not noticed a negative impact while offroad driving over 15mph as some worry about.
2. I dislike the Pro wheels - they're too thin and far too common here in CO (I detest the ORP wheels, for what its worth) so I knew i'd replace the wheels no matter what I purchased.
3. I know a few guys with TRDPros. They all ended up replacing the suspension by year 3 - why not save money and get what you want sooner?
of course, this means I have to deal with the agonizing decision of what suspension to install.
4. Dealer was willing to give me a great price and find the exact truck I wanted - silver ORP w/ KDSS and no other options - I dislike moonroof and the reduced headroom.
For everyone having trouble getting a truck build they way they want... it took all of 4 weeks for him to get it on the lot and he priced it below invoice and below what brokers were at.
I'm not a pro hater. I think they are great looking trucks. It just wasn't what I wanted. I admit I would love to have that front bar that says Toyota, but I'm not spending the money to do it.

KDSS fan here... lots of winding, twisting, hilly roads here, and it's my DD. If your commuting area is more of a grid type network of roads, the KDSS may not be as big of a deal. My off roading barely qualifies as such, with just some shallow mud muddles along forest service roads and such. No crawling or anything like that.
yeah if we can special order the TRDPro why cant we order a ORP without the KDSS. Cause on the Brochure it says that the KDSS is an option. then the salesperson told me that it varies by region and I guess the Hawaii region has to have the KDSS option on the ORP
yeah I guess it all depends on the region. some regions have the the OR without the KDSS and some has it.
I was looking at both the TRDP and ORP recently. Wife wanted it to be white and have the moonroof so went with ORP. Liked the TRDP but figured I’d change the suspension and wheels eventually and the difference in the cosmetic elements didn’t justify the price. So decided to make the wife happy and save some money (well, not save, just upgrade faster).
haha yeah ended up putting a deposit for a TRD pro instead. gonna have to wait till after March or middle of next year for it to arrive.
When I purchased mine, the dealer had 5 ORP in stock. One was about $2500 less than the others and did not have KDSS.

Auto Nation Toyota dealer in Las Vegas. I dealt with Steve Tenwick. No hassle, got me my Pro with exactly what I wanted on it, nothing more, msrp(Just had to wait for my turn). They have OR's and ORP's in stock and more on the way according to their website.

If you want a TRDOR without KDSS look at Gulf States inventory
That was my point, GS is KDSS as a special order. I actually have a TRDP that showed up today!

Oh, sorry, I misread you as with the opposite dilemma.
*If you wanted a KDSS, look up a non-GS dealer
Searched all over the west coast and as far east as New Jersey for a Cavalry Blue TRD Pro for nearly a couple weeks. Toward the end of it I just wanted a TRD Pro in Black or White. I do not plan on modding the truck much, nor will be taking it off-road much (have another rig for that), hence I wanted the resale value.
Not realizing the demand for these things initially and then realizing even the TRD Off-Road Premiums were difficult to get in the SF Bay Area I ended up committing to a Nautical Blue on Black Softex TRD Pro Premium at a dealer in the same town as my residence. Just my luck that I found out it was sold that morning when I decided to pick it up. Every other dealer in the area only had SR5's and Limiteds. Turns out between the time they sold the TRD Off-Road and when I arrived a black TRD Pro came off their delivery truck. The guy who spec'd it out backed out and I was able to convince the sales team to sell me the truck. Picked it up at sticker.
While searching I also stumbled across another Nautical Blue Trail Premium with some aesthetic mods - very subtle and tasteful. I believe it was a 2016 and had about 12,000 miles. The dealer wanted $44k for the truck and even that sold in a week. So - you won't get a discount, but you don't have to pay over sticker. Good luck.

I'd go CAVALRY Blue if it were me. Then again, if you plan on reselling in the near future, going with the other 2 colors may make more sense. The Cavalry Blue may be too "unique" to appeal to the masses.
