4runner PRO or TRD trail Premium

i went back to Hanless Toyota and those guys were just ******..

they asked $9k mark up on top of the msrp..

however though, found another dealer that is selling it for msrp.. question is.. what color? calvary blue, white or black?

If you arent going for a TRD specific color, i dont get why you wont just get the off road.
You already stated your planning on getting bumpers, ur trd pro 1 inch lift is going to drop.
Just get the off road premium, get your bumpers, and accommodate it with proper lift / wheels. Either way you'll be upgrading your tires.

I never drove the TRD Pro. But I wanted the Moon roof on my truck and KDSS seems to make the ride smooth when you go off road . :juggle:

Hey all, first post.

I'm also trying to make this decision. I'm in Canada so maybe the models are a bit different but there's no longer a Trail. I think it's now called the TRD Off Road. So it's between that and the TRD PRO for me. The difference in price between the two is about $5400 CDN (list). That's about $4200 USD. Main upgrades are shocks/springs, wheels, tires, and skid plate. And then a bunch of cosmetic stuff which I quite like as well. I think it will come down to which I can get the best deal on

This was my thought process on going w/ the TRD Off-Road

Cost:
OME lift: $800-$1K
TRD rims: $750-ish
BFG KO2s: $600-$800
Skids: $400-$600
TOTAL: $2,600-$3,150

But....
You can sell the Off road wheels and tires for ~$1K

I say go w/ the Off Road and save the $$, unless you just love the unique color.

Good luck,

-Chris

This is the correct logic behind OPs question.
I have a Pro and still would recommend a Trail or TRDOR

wanted a sunroof and would never be able to justify the 8-10k premium for the TRD PRO personally.

Even a 2wd sr5 would have been ok for me. I don’t need 80% of the stuff my TRDOR

That said, I’m jelly whenever I see a pro. They are bauce.

If you can afford both, get the one that you would secretly hope to land face up if you were flipping a coin to decide.

My end, I'm screwed in Cali.

Dealer puts it on cars.com app and after I email them. Is sold. Why put it online when the car is sold before going on the app.

All dealers around me is jacking the price up hella bad.

$44 is the cheapest I seen and some of the dealers are marking it $5k-$10k plus

To get people to their dealership to come look at other cars. Sales can be better made for hem face to face.

I traded my 2015 TRD Sport tacoma in on my Pro. Everyone has there own reasoning. Me personally I like the Pro look better. I did all the mods to my 15 and then took them off and sold them. I did not want to do it again. I did not want a sunroof. I put Tyger side bars on to help from door dings more then using them for getting in. The only thing I see doing to my Pro if that is putting a set of Stealthcustom wheels or a set of FX wheels. Just to get the wider wheel for a little better handling. As of now i’m not changing anything. I like it just the way it is.

The Pro is a well dressed up off road with a different suspension and huge mark up.

I just picked up a 2018 TRD Pro and I still have my 2015 Trail Premium with KDSS. After driving it for 500 miles here are my thoughts.

I wish the TRD Pro had the puddle lights and the turn signals on the mirrors. When going into a dark parking garage in Baltimore at night, I was able to unlock my doors and light up the area between cars at night. Also when sitting in bumper to bumper traffic the turn signal indicators on the mirrors are helpful for letting the person next to you know you want to move over.

The TRD Pro handles the large potholes and raised manhole covers in the city of Baltimore much better, but lane changes at highway speeds and on cloverleaf exit ramps the Trail Premium with KDSS handles much better. It stays flatter and doesn't have nearly as much body roll as the TRD Pro.

The TRD Pro is quieter inside which might be due to a different undercoat/sound deadening in the rear wheelwells. My 2015 Trail Premium had a spray on coating in the wheelwells and the 2018 TRD Pro has a sound deadening mat material with brushed on coating.

I like the pro simply for the color offerings. my dad had an FJ in Calavary so I love it on the runner.

I wonder if Toyota will offer the Cement and Cavalry colors as an option for NonPro 4Runners, like they do for the Tacoma (cement)? In some ways it defeats the purpose of the Pro (for those purchasing for the "unique" color option).
