I put my 4runner to the ultimate test Friday night!! I recently installed an ARB Bumper with Warn 9.5xp winch, OME suspension and Nitto Terra Grapplers 265/70 tires.
A friend of mine called me at 8pm Friday night cause he was stuck in his Ford F-350 4 door long bed pick-up. I called my brother to help, he has a Chevy duramax, to come with in case I got stock.
My friend was stuck in mud and snow, and buried to his frame. My brother ended up getting stuck on the way there, so I winched him out. That winch sucked him right out of the hole he was in once we got the right angle on it. I was surprised that my 4runner only slid about a foot towards him.
The mud was about 3 inches deep, and it was like grease. We ended up leaving my brothers truck below because it couldn't make it up.
I also found in some spots leaving the 4runner unlocked helped out a bunch.
We got to my friend and ended up winching him out almost a 1/2 mile. I was thouroghly impressed how well that winch pulled him out, without using a snatch block.
We almost had him all the way out until I did something stupid.
I put my winch in Freespool and backedup, put on my brakes and started sliding off the road, and got to the end of the cable, and ripped it out of the winch.
Overall, the 4runner drove in the snow and mud very well locked and unlocked.
The winch performed a lot better than what I expected.
But i did learn that I need wheel spacers or new rims with the offset. Chains will not fit on those tires as they hit the upper a-arm.
My ford and Chevy buddies were disgusted that my 4 runner went more places and pulled them out.
The true test came back very positive, and now I really know that there isn't much this rig won't do in snow and mud!
