What are you looking for out of your steps? Many here will recommend (step)sliders, but if you only want steps that's a different path.

What are sliders?
I guess what I'm looking for are safe running boards. That also look good on my 4Runner.

Sliders are typically very heavy duty and bolt directly to the frame. they are built to slide off of rocks so that you don't take any actual body or frame damage. Steps (like the N-Fabs) bolt onto the body of the car, right undeneath your door on the sheet metal rather than the sturdy frame. they are significantly cheaper, less heavy duty and are NOT built to take much of any impacts although i do have N-Fabs and they slid right off of a rock without any damage or bending but generally thats not what their meant for.

Add to this, to clarify, the slider should support the vehicle weight; a step will not do this*. This largely depends on the type of action (rock; mall; something in the middle) you plan on doing.
*For further clarity--a running board will not do this. A slider may come with or without step plates.
