4runner stolen, NEED HELP? Airbag issue.

My 07 was stolen and stripped down back in September. I had no full-cover insurance so didn't get any money. For the past couple of months I have been gathering the parts and I am almost there. Thieves were probably from or working for a body shop that needed parts to rebuild a crashed vehicle. Anyway to cut a long story short, they cut the driver's air bag cables and took the whole thing. I found an airbag on ebay and the connector plugs both from a reputable seller, but the cables color coding from the plugs does not match the cables what comes out of the vehicle. I called the company and they couldn't help me. I've looked at the owner's manual but again the plugs cable color do not match, so wouldn't know how to hook them up. I was hoping someone in this forum had at some point pulled their steering wheel airbag, to install controls, or change steering wheel or something and would know or had pictures of how these cables are hooked up.

Third and fourth are the color coding from factory both at cutting point and factory harness.

You must have got an airbag for a different year or model. Even on the same model they change wire colors on lots of wires every year. Maybe you can figure out how to match up the wires by comparing what you have with the wiring diagram in the service manual?

I would use very good quality connectors if you're going to be playing with Airbag wiring. You want very low resistance in the wiring and to prevent corrosion from causing problems later down the road. Remember to do this work with the battery disconnected, you can set an airbag off with a couple AA's believe it or not.

Somewhat off topic and probably not what you want to see but I would reconsider installing an airbag bought off eBay into my car. Read this:

A fake/counterfeit airbag will either not work at all or perhaps even worse, explode a bunch of shrapnel in your face making any potential injury from a collision a lot worse. I work in the electronics industry and I've seen all sorts of counterfeit parts come out of China over the past several years so I know this type of thing is rampant; for something like an airbag where its operation is so critical, I wouldn't risk it. Get the part from the dealer and just eat the cost.

I've heard about the fakes, some are scooped out inside and others are bad quality... I just don't remember if the part number tags match up properly...

You have limited options when it comes to connectors. Either you buy from ebay or other airbag.com place, or you go to the dealer and get the whole harness which is over $2,000. They don't sell the connectors.

Oh you mis-understood. I meant when you splice the wires in.

I meant use good quality butt connectors, preferably with heat shrink casing to seal the wire up. Or if you decide to solder them, try to do a good job to reduce cold solder joints and use heat shrink tubing.
