Also, you got to imagine that a rear swing a way tire carrier becomes a damage multiplier when something runs into it at the right angle. Think, while a lot of here offroad bumpers are stout, a tire carrier more than likely will flex into the hatch and possibly rear window, depending on point and force of impact.

Makes me really think about what swing out I want to go with. When you give up that stout tow hitch, you loose some rear end insurance. I like both Savage and 4X Innovations. But the 4X seems like it might be slightly better protection for people rear ending you, or parking by Braille.
