I do thinks it's a lot like a large car, but that's part of what appeals to me. I'd love to be getting 25-30 mpg regularly and I love the road manners.
On with the research!
My opinion, your affair with the X5 will be short lived. Hell, go get a Range Rover. From talking with friends and neighbors with them, the quality has jumped leaps and bounds. Of course, I'd have a LR4 if that was 100% true and I trusted Tata Motors.
Looks like some nice tire wear and limited traction going on there LOL. I've never understood this trend.
The more I shop around and look at other vehicles, the more I feel satisfied with the 4runner. Sort of boring to drive, but I truly enjoy knowing it'll just start and go every time I get in.
Might as well have an altar built into the back for your sacrifices to the service gods. Don't believe me? The Audi A8 and Q7 run the same system and you are eternally screwed if out of warranty and an issue arises with it.
But that V8 and handling would give me so many smiles per gallon.
Almost opted for the V10 TDi but once I saw the cost of replacing the diesel particular filters (as a service item) at $1600 x 2 + labor I said no no no.
That engine though. We complain of brake dive in the 4r but that thing had acceleration rise unlike anything else I have ever driven.
