4runner vs Challenger

Hey guys,
I'm gonna order a 2017 Challenger Rt with the 5.7 just as soon as the rep will take the order. My question is, my Sr5 now has 30k on it. I was wondering which one might have a major failure first. Both have tried and true engines and will be interesting to see.

5.7L Hemi? Unless they fixed them, most likely the valve seats will drop out in 50k-ish or some other cylinder related issues. I know the older hemis were getting rap for head issues...

But yeah, it's a Chrysler/Fiat Product; my money's on the Toyota. Though I do like the Challengers...

And, irregardless of that being accurate or a type-o, I'd almost guarantee a late-model Dodge will have more frequent and more significant issues than your 4Runner. And I'm farrr from a Toyota fanboy.

be it 30 or 130, i think the yota will continue to be problem free. not saying the challenger will be problematic, but it is a chrysler product. hopefully you get many years of trouble free enjoyment out of it!

Easy...my Jeep GC at 25k already had transmission issues. And this wasn't even the 2014 6 spd issue. This was the 5.7 Hemi 6 spd in the 2013. Different transmission. It's a Chrysler product...never again will I own one. I enjoyed my Jeep, but no way I would own a newer one for a long time. Plus...great in straight line speed and that is it. Would rather have something that takes curves as well.

Yep, the Toyota only has 30k on it. It shares mileage with my 99 Firebird Formula. The Pontiac just turned 130k and I'm tired of it nickel and dimeing me. They each get about 6k a year in miles.
I saw online for $2600 Dodge will sell me a lifetime bumper to bumper extended service contract with a $100 deductible. Well worth the price.
Bahahaha, The reason I'm compairing is I was wondering how a QUALITY 8 year old vehicle with 30k on it might do against a new vehicle. But, you guys are right, two different types of vehicles and two different manufacturers.

2 weeks ago my family members 2013 dodge challenger gas pedal broke off . stuck on major hywy. 50K miles on it. also the issues with this dodge is body integrity that will be your issue with these. make sure you get seat covers very poor quality material. also check out the door window on how it works . in winter it can freeze up and then break. this is because every time you open / close door the window moves by itself.

the dodge is useless in winter way too low . good for warm climates.
the front and rear bumpers are pure plastic no protection .

body panels very flexible thin .

the dodge will make the toyota look like its going backwards its so fast. it will be hard to adjust to the different ways these react when driving .

My neighbor has a 2015 Challenger RT and he blew his transmission pulling up his driveway. The car only had 4k miles on it.

Toyota is the safe bet

Lease don't buy, don't own it past 3yr/36k bumper to bumper and at the first sign of trouble ask for a new one. Sounds like you're on the right track.

15yrs LOL this is not gonna happen unless you put it up on blocks in your living room..

on the 2013 6sp manual, the engine so far this has not been an issue. 50K no engine noises max power has a diablo tune you will need at least 89 octane OEM tune , easy rear wheel drive to work engine. 5-20wt mobil 1 with the wix XP synthetic media oil filters 7 QTS .

you will need 2 jacks to lift the vehicle one on each side when you work on it . body does not flex .

any moderate collision the vehicle will be a total loss. look up the reports on this on passenger safety with crash tests.

don't get the plastic wheel covers pure china crap lasts about 1 yr then junk.

vehicle has the same type interior size as my 96 impala . lots of room but the seating is inferior . this challenger vehicle now has rust problems in areas like around the trunk lid ??? poor paint work low quality control , dealership stated this is normal wear issue.

at least you will have some fun for a couple of years before the headaches begin. the gas pedal costs about $90 .. I WOULD BUY ONE JUST IN CASE IT BREAKS OFF. CALLED THE PEDAL TRAVEL SENSOR .

Why not get a more reliable sports car, even with lifetime warranty it's still a hassle! For 35k you can get a used Lexus IS F or even a new Subaru WRX or STI.

Well I mean, I get it... It's a pretty damn cool looking car and when the Hemi is not having issues it's a powerhouse of an engine. I wanted a Challenger myself for a while, but after working on plenty of Chrysler products when I did used vehicles it left a bitter taste in my mouth.

But I get the appeal.

Just like the looks and the interior on them. I figure the warranty will keep me out of trouble. If not, trade for something else. At 6k a year, should be a while. It's got to be better than sinking anymore into my 17 year old Pontiac with 130k on it.

The popularity of all the "new" pony cars baffles me...then again I am a cheap bastard that grew up on Japanese reliability simplicity and did I mention cheap. It only took the "American" guys 15 years to strap some technology on their engines and the numbers are totally impressive but its those small things that will drive a person to selling a car...window and door fitment, small annoying repairs etc.

...and the whole "retro" movement is basically a nod to saying yea we know the best thing we ever did was in the late sixties, so we are just going to do that again! Watch that Mustang get loooong as it approaches the early seventies !

Meh I must have gotten lucky because I have an 05 300c with the 5.7 hemi. It's got 196xxx and runs strong still!

Please for the love of GOD do not buy a Chrysler product. EVER. Every mechanic I know says they are a nightmare and use the cheapest possible parts. I have one friend who made a living for 15 years fixing nothing but Caravan transmission because they sucked so bad. If you want a muscle car, get the Camaro.
