4Runner vs. GX

Well I still am waiting for my 06 limited to get here and was sure I was never going to change my mind until I stopped by the lexus dealer this morning! I know that they are very different but very similar vehicles, but really what I am wondering is if I lose anything by going with the GX besides a couple of bucks out of my wallet. What I mean is there any options that the 4Runner has or offroad capability that the GX does not. Thank you for your help.

Unfair question. Money is ALWAYS a factor. GX does not do anything worst than 4runner except price and extra luxury features that some may not need.

I would get Lexus GX470 with Sport Package (aka KDSS). I have seen it in action, courtesy of TEXGX...a very nice & capable rig!
 
from everything i can see the only thing you lose by going with the lexus is the back hatch, but that is something that i can easily live with for all the extra fun toys you get on it! looks like i am going to have to change my order:)
 
The 4Runner is much lighter than the Lex, so it is faster. Therefore, it also probably gets slightly better gas mileage.

I think the 4Runner is better looking than the GX also.

All this being said, IF they were the same price (and that is a gigantic IF) I'd obviously go with the GX w/ KDSS. But since they are NOT, bang for the buck goes hands down to the Runner, and you don't have to wear a goofy sweater vest while your driving it...:D
 
I agree with everything that the previous posters said. It all depends on what you like and how much you want to spend. I have driven a GX so I can give you a fair comparison on both trucks. The GX470's high points are it has a much nicer interior with the wood grain and higher quality materials, the ride is a lot smoother, road noise is less noticable, Mark Levinsons stereo is one of the best on the market, and the seats are more comfortable. The 4Runner's high points are it is quicker, less top heavy, power rear window, a soft close tailgate, a V6 option, aux input jack on the stereo, and 18'' rims standard on the Limited (if that is your thing). Honestly, the GX470 and 4Runner Limited are very similar. For exampleWhether all of the additional options on the GX are worth a $10,000 premium is your own decision. I don't think so!
 
Can the GX use the same lift options as the 4Runner? Will Donahoes or OME fit?


If you factor in the longer warranty and extra features, the $10k is worth it. Also, the service at a Lexus dealer is the best.
