4runner will NOT lock!!

Starting today I simply cannot lock my 4Runner.

The lock button on my key remote does nothing. I can unlock the 4Runner with the remote. I can hear the locks open and the beeping.

Also I tried from inside the vehicle with the door sill. The lock does nothing but the unlock works.

So I know its my not remote for sure.

As of now I've just manually locked my doors by pressing the knobs down.

Any suggestions??

Pull negative battery cable for a few minutes? If you're lucky, that will reset the condition causing the problem.

I'm pretty confused too, esp. since the button in the door doesn't work to lock it. I would think that would still work even if the alarm box died.

Was the door opened or closed (i.e. you are in the vehicle) when you tried to lock it with the door button ?

I have had this problem too, it only happens intermittantly and usually in cold weather, but has never improved. Let me know if you figure anything out.

Just throwing out a thought-not sure if it makes sense

You know probably already that it will not let you lock the vehicle with the key in the ignition

so my guess is that it still thinks the key is in the ignition switch?

like perhaps the lock cylinder does not return to full off position?

loose contacts/wire shorting within the ignition cylinder is my guess...

Does it do anything when you hit the lock button like beep or anything? If it beeps like a door is still open, then you may have a bad door switch so the truck thinks there is still a door open.
